Lorelle Meets The Obsolete

Future Yard are thrilled to be hosting Lorelle Meets The Obsolete at Future Yard on 21st September.

The Mexican duo come to Birkenhead in support of their sixth studio album Datura, set to be released on 16th June via Sonic Cathedral.

It’s a short, sharp shock of a record with no unnecessary adornments and no fat on any of its eight songs. Gone are the psychedelic wig-outs found on previous releases, now replaced with bass-heavy post-punk grooves inspired by the roots of The Congos, the no wave of Ike Yard, the industrial hip-hop of Dälek and the dark modular moves of Hiro Kone – all while harnessing the elemental power of Jon Hassell’s Vernal Equinox. A pure sonic fusion sure to be perfect for the live arena.

Future Now

AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKENDER

Future Yard are incredibly excited to be hosting their August bank holiday weekender again, on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th August 2023. Future Now is their annual celebration of the best emerging new music, which also marks the anniversary of the festival that launched Future Yard in 2019.

Following on from headliners Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs and Snapped Ankles shaking the foundations last year, they’re excited to share news of this year’s line-up with you. Returning heroes The Bug Club and BODEGA are our headliners for 2023, both having played packed out shows here on Argyle Street in 2022.

This year they’ll be expanding things a bit more using our outside space as they bring you the biggest Future Now Weekender yet! Their third annual FN kicks off on Friday with the nuanced songcraft and understated candour of Christian Lee Hutson‘s soul-searching desert folk, the indie-rock rapturous highs of Amsterdam’s much-beloved Personal Trainer, Leeds’ post-punkers Treeboy & Arc sophomore Future Yard appearance after helping welcome in the New Year this past December, plus the much anticipated return of Wirral’s own Seal Cub Clubbing Club, returning to the live arena with their patented wry wit wrapped up in a folk/post-punk blanket after over a decade away; all before a headline set from ultimate FY favourites The Bug Club.

Prior to BODEGA‘s Saturday headline set to close the show, there’ll be a thunderous return for Bo Ningen, playing Birkenhead for the second summer in row, Baba Ali‘s continued journey into the world of electro punk disco, with one foot firmly in the dancefloor and the other in a frenzy, avant-garde eclecticism courtesy of Butch Kassidy, a cocktail of off-kilter sound mixed in a cauldron of perplexity from Heartworms, Spielmann‘s perimeter-skirting alt-pop and Tapir!‘s masked madness fuelled by folkish charm and ambient melodia. Phew.

And, as always with Future Now, they’ll be highlighting a plethora of wildly talented artists that make up the bustling local scene across both festival days, with Poppy Shrimpton, Shefu and our very own Katie Mac now added to the Friday line-up, plus A Lesser Version, Bill Nickson, Coughin Vicars, Louie Miles and Things Happen Fast playing on Saturday.

Spencer Cullum

Future Yard are thrilled to be welcoming the Romford-born, Nashville-made sounds of Spencer Cullum on the Future Yard stage on Thursday 17th August, as he presents his Coin Collection in Birkenhead along with Erin Rae and Sean Thompson.

They join the venue this summer in support of Callum’s Coin Collection 2 (released in April via Full Time Hobby), a kaleidoscopic collection of folk, jazz and pop, cut though with immaculately-rendered songwriting. It’s an album that refuses to wear its influences on it sleeve, maintaining the beautifully sun-kissed, English country garden, bees-buzzing-round-lager atmosphere of Callum’s first Coin Collection LP, but much more complicated, weirder and far deeper.
