Mock Tudors

On Thursday 7th September they welcome Mock Tudors to the Future Yard stage.

South Yorkshire’s answer to Buzzcocks meet The Sweet, Mock Tudors’ frenetic glam infused garage-rock oozed from the basement of ‘Delicious Clam’ in Sheffield in January of 2022. Since then the band have released a set of EP‘s alongside a bootleg LP, toured extensively with the likes of The Bug Club & The Futureheads, and played live in session twice for BBC 6 music.

With songs about everything from domestic recycling politics (Bin Day), to a PTA meeting gone awry (Nutbush Coffee Morning) Mock Tudors write it so you don’t have to. The band’s truly DIY approach sees them creating everything in-house, from music videos and artwork to handmade leather and ceramic merchandise. This band is a semi-professional Tudor cottage industry… just don’t tell the Lord of the manor.

Where Are Your Gods Now

Where Are Your Gods Now is an audiovisual experience that combines Rea Fortis’ love of music videos and visual albums.

This visual EP launch pays homage to western films, while starting a conversation about the place of religion in a post apocalyptic world. In her directorial premiere, Where Are Your Gods Now doubles as the debut EP from Fortis which features succulent fusions of jazz and blues music coupled with visuals of the vast and diverse landscapes of Liverpool.

ABOUT REA FORTIS

Rea Fortis is an audiovisual specialist who is often inspired by 1920’s fashion, drag and auteurism in music. A classically trained musician, she writes and produces her own music with ivory keys at her fingertips and selection of saxophones not far from hand. Fascinated by music videos and visual albums, Fortis presents her debut EP in the form of a visual album this summer.

The Hare and the Moon

Join The Fabularium Astronomers as they tell the tale of how Leapa the Arctic Hare, saved the realm from a villainous beast; a tale of a furry fearless female, who brought the light back to the day and also made the night sky glow!

Expect to see puppets, original music, and illuminations!

This is an outdoor production, so please bring your own chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather!

Sugarthief X Astles

On Saturday 5th August Future Yard host a soup of sound packed with jam-made funk and seasoned with some yearning, lilting indie.

Born somewhere between the Midlands and Merseyside, SUGARTHIEF are back to show the world their fresh new sound centred around their jam sessions and live recordings. Here they delve into funk, jazz and soul which have long driven their development in experimentation and improvisation that was first teased in their live shows and debut EP.

Astles joins them on the night, a firm FY favourite and no stranger to our live room, backed by a full band expanding his formative sound of personal tales to their sonic limit.

Shipwrecker

Future Yard host Shipwrecker, as they make the long trip up from their basement rehearsal studios to their live room on Friday 4th August.

A four-piece alternative/classic rock band who started life as an occasional side project while spread over different cities, Shipwrecker have since returned to their roots on the Wirral, and perfected their blend of late 90s alt-rock and huge classic rock vocals.

With two sold out Liverpool shows under their belts, and a series of carefully honed foot-stomping singles released, Shipwrecker are emerging as one of the hottest rock bands to come out of the region in recent years. The 4 piece have completed work on their ambitious début album “Different Beast”, a record written in our very own basement studios in 2022, and recorded in Liverpool with producer Tom Peters (of Alpha Male Tea Party fame). Due to be released on Friday the 4th August, the album will be available on limited run vinyl, which is available to purchase on the night.

“Imagine that Chris Cornell had joined up with the Foo Fighters instead of Rage Against the Machine. Instead of Audioslave you’d get Shipwrecker.”

Support on the night comes from GONDOLAS and Polker.

Rae Morris

Future Yard are overjoyed to be welcoming Rae Morris to the venue for a headline show.

The Blackpool born singer / songwriter / pianist released her beautiful third album via RCA Records in 2022: Rachel@Fairyland was written and recorded at home in North London with her partner Fryars alongside their close friend Sean O’Hagan of The High Llamas and Stereolab.

Morris’ emotive indie-folk has expanded in an uninhibited fashion now, blending “very textual, modern hi-fi music with strings and orchestral sounds”, while pulling inspiration from an eclectic array of source material (Björk, Minnie Riperton, Joanna Newsom and the sound-world of her hometown).

The Local Honeys

Future Yard are thrilled to be hosting Kentucky duo The Local Honeys on Thursday 9th November, brought to Birkenhead for the first time by Rogue Country.

Many artists are defined by place, but only a handful of artists come to define the places they’re from. The Local Honeys are Kentucky and Kentucky runs through their veins like an unbridled racehorse. The Local Honeys (Linda Jean Stokley and Montana Hobbs) come from a long line of storytellers and a lineage of strong Kentucky women that aren’t afraid to tell it like it is.

With their self-titled La Honda Records 2022 debut LP, the duo have mastered the art of telling a good story, while pushing the envelope within the traditions they hold dear. Carefully crafted vignettes of rural Kentucky soar above layers of deep grooves and rich tones, creating the most nuanced, moody, deep-holler sound the duo have captured to date.

An evening of live experimental music

Bluecoat will host a unique evening of special live performances from Adela Mede, Dane Law and Dialect. Three artists exploring the interplay of folk forms, ambient sounds and computer music.

Slovak-Hungarian musician Adela Mede creates mesmerising multi-layered pieces of ambient-folk-pop with voice, technology and field recordings. Singing in three languages (Slovak, Hungarian and English) layering ambient compositions with digital vocal manipulations and minimalistic electronica. Her debut album ‘Szabadság’ is filled with folkloric melodies and described by The Quietus as ‘gorgeous vocals and atmospheric re-imaginations of traditional themes which are never short of ideas or emotional depth.’

Dane Law is a London based producer whose current output explores sound collage and sampling, with semi-algorithmic layered acoustic guitar pieces. His latest record blue forty-six’ is a beautiful arrangement of harp-like notes and melancholic beauty. Described by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Ravenscroft as “A really, really gorgeous record.”

Dialect is the long standing project of Liverpool composer, multi instrumentalist and field recordist, Andrew PM Hunt. His music is a kind of cybernetic minimalism with digitised vocals and hypnotic tape loops. His output has been described by Pitchfork as ‘like a painter or collage artist, not so much writing music as manipulating shapes.’
