Percussionist, producer and composer, Talvin Singh, is renowned for creating the bridge between Indian and electronic music. Drawing inspiration from the classical Indian arts, he has managed to sculpt a unique sonic landscape.

Singh’s synthesis of electronic music and Eastern aesthetic is often referred to as Asian Underground, one of the most exciting movements in the history of British music.

He has taken the Tabla to the cutting edge with the most unimaginable sonic creations, which has ultimately helped him to demystify Indian classical music, and therefore inspire a whole new generation of musicians and producers of contemporary music in India and the South Asian diaspora worldwide. Singh’s influence has also spanned the visual arts, dance and film.

Having worked and collaborated with a diverse range of artists, such as Sun Ra, the late Ustad Sultan Khan, Terry Riley, John Martyn and Yoko Ono, he still continues to be as explorative and imaginative in his solo career as well as curating new ventures in contemporary music.

Singh’s debut album ‘OK’ achieved huge acclaim and won Singh the Mercury Music Prize in 1999. He has also been honoured with the South Bank Prize for popular music and was awarded an OBE in 2015 for Services to Music.

Talvin continues to perform internationally, write and produce music, and work as a music director for various creative projects.

Imagine if the world was almost destroyed and there were just a few survivors left. With the goal of building a new positive world from the wreckage of the past, what sort of music would these musicians make?

After the Flood is a conceptual instrumental band hailing from Liverpool, UK featuring guitarist/composers Neil Campbell (Bulbs/Neil Campbell Collective) and Marty Snape (Mighty Zeb/Bulbs), along with Roger Gardiner (Dead Poppies) on Overwater bass and Norwegian ace Viktor Nordberg (Viktor Nordberg Trio) on drums.

The band creates a pan-global music where each musician is an equal part of the whole, drawing on minimalism, folk music, progressive rock, African, Indian and other indigenous musical styles.

At this lunchtime concert, they will perform an extended set of original music drawn from their eponymous 2018 debut album alongside newer tracks and pieces from Neil Campbell’s 2021 album The Great Escape.

BCUC – Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness – are returning to Liverpool following an incredible set as part of the Mandela Freedom Festival this summer.

On Thursday 20 October, the band from Soweto, South Africa will show Liverpool once again why Gilles Peterson described them as “without a doubt the best live act I saw,” and why The Guardian called them “the most impressive newcomers this year”. Don’t miss their indigenous funk, hiphop consciousness and punk rock energy at District later this month.

On 9 November, LEAF on Bold Street will play host to Leeds trio Kinaara. The perfect backdrop to a dark, candlelit night with friends and family, LEAF’s bohemian atmosphere sets the scene for the band’s unique ‘Punjabi meets Western’ musical style.

Kinaara are a trio of vocal, electric guitar, and drum kit. They play a mix of Celtic and Punjabi folk songs, presented in Kinaara’s own distinctive arrangements.

Brought together by singer Satnam Gaussian in 2018, the trio aim to achieve an identity that reflects both her Punjabi heritage and their UK upbringing as a whole.

Galsian began working on arrangements of the songs of Surinder Kaur and Poor Jehan, with guitar player John Hogg. Though both musicians are schooled in Indian classical music, they soon realised that they wanted to keep an edge to the sound with an emphasis on electric guitar and drums. Jazz drummer Simon Henry completes the cross-genre trio.

Nominated for ‘Best Indie Act’ 2021 by Radio Wigwam, Kinaara have been playing to enthusiastic audiences in the North of England with a standout performance at Musicport festival 2021.

Mellowtone are bringing Only Child’s Tenth Anniversary Celebration to LEAF on Bold Street, with special guests The Folk Doctors and Dorothy Bird.

Mellowtone presents Alan O’Hare’s eclectic folk ensemble Only Child as they celebrate their tenth anniversary with a special gig featuring a string quartet and the launch of their first ever vinyl album Looking Forward To Looking Back.

Featuring ten songs remastered for 2022 by Pete Maher (U2), including Scouse, Accidental Englishman, William Ralph Dean, and North John Street, the limited edition LP is the first release on the newly-launched Crosstown Records – from acclaimed Liverpool producer, engineer and guitarist Jon Lawton – and will be available from 1 October 2022.

Bruce is the record’s first single and has been described by Americana UK as “a great example of O’Hare’s fine songcraft and sense of infectious melody”. The song asks who do you turn to when grief threatens to overwhelm and is a paean to the things that get us through. “The thing with black feathers? I refuse to let it win,” says O’Hare.

KOF, a Liverpool born, London raised, singer, rapper and producer not only possesses a tone referred to as “silk laced with pain and passion”, but also has the ability to effortlessly crosses genres with his undeniable flow in pursuit of the perfect sonics.

KOF refers to his euphonious sound as “heart on sleeve music crafted from the underbelly of RnB, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, Jazz, House& Reggae” and his genre bending skills have afforded him the ability to create a sound that just wants to pull you into a different world with every track.

Having previously worked with UK music legends such as Terri Walker, Ghetts and Wretch 32 he’s been able to master some of the tools that have made him a beast both lyrically and vocally in the studio and on stage.

Motto Estate is a collective of unconventional artists ranging in influences and styles making an undeniable mark in the underground scene. From bringing the rawest energy to the most honest introspective expression bursting through your speaker.

The collective consists of creative powerhouses such as Degie Katarungu, Kenso, Teddy Good, Dan Anthony, Titu, Morgo and CID THE CHEMIST. The collective has been noted as performing with unrivalled energy.

Keeley The Producer

Known for her exciting electronic sounds and genre blending productions, Liverpool’s own Keeley The Producer made her 2022 artistic debut with a stack of musical collaborations and live performances. Big dance floor moments, arpeggiated synths and rock inspired guitar leads, Keeley gives the audeince a unique perspective into the world of music production by bringing the studio to the stage.

With a drive to present electronic sounds in the most innovative way possible Keeley’s shows combine new technology with traditional instrumentation to bring you a performance like nothing you’ve experienced before. Drawing on influences from Flume, Jamie XX and Disclosure, Keeley’s unique but recognisable sound has set herself up for an exciting year ahead.

 

 

Keep The Music Going is a music event featuring the best songwriters and musicians in an informal setting.

Rob Gough Promotions in association with Liverpool Acoustic are delighted to announce that the launch night of Keep The Music Going will feature award-winning songwriter, Robert Vincent who won both UK Artist of the Year and UK Album of the Year for his album In This Town You’re Owned at the 2021 UK Americana Awards.

Supporting Robert for this inaugural session will be Wirral’s very own one to watch, Liz Owen, who has supported legendary artists such as Joan Armatrading and Midge Ure and been featured multiple times on BBC Radio stations.

This spectacular evening of music that will showcase two magnificent songwriters will take place in the French style surroundings of Pierre Griffes Café Bar & Bistro, located on Allerton Road in Liverpool with showtime being Wednesday 17th August with doors opening at 7pm and the music beginning at 8pm.

Keep The Music Going signals the start of a new partnership between Rob Gough Promotions and Liverpool Acoustic as we seek to highlight the very best songwriters in intimate venues whilst also seeking to keep ticket prices affordable.

We are extremely excited to announce, punk rock legends Flipper will headline IWF Substation on Friday the 5th August 2022, featuring original members Stephen De Pace (drums) and Ted Falconi (guitar), plus Mike Watt of Minutemen on bass & vocals.

Heavily influenced by The Birthday Party, The Velvet Underground, Chrome, PIL, Joy Division and The Stooges, FLIPPER have, throughout their 40+ year spanning career, inspired a large number of bands including The Melvins, Terminal Cheesecake, REM, Mudhoney, Unsane, Jane´s Addiction, Unwound & Nirvana (Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic played bass in the band throughout the 2000s), with their unique slowed-down, bass-driven, heavily distorted and repetitive style of punk.

In Henry Rollins’ memoir of the early 1980s punk rock scene, ‘Get In The Van’, he describes the Flipper experience this way:

‘They were just heavy. Heavier than you. Heavier than anything!”

This tour marks the band’s 43 year anniversary and for the special occasion, they are bringing San Diego’s sludge metal veterans 16 (Relapse Records) as main support on all dates!
