Huey Morgan brings his NYC Block Party to Birkenhead on Friday 19th April.
The musical equivalent of the cosmic Big Bang, disco, hip hop and funk collided in an almighty collision in late 70s New York, with call and response choruses sat astride Get Down breaks and fast’n’furious hip hop mixing. It was a truly magical moment, and one that Huey captures perfectly with his funk-loving NYC Block Party.
The former front man of Fun Lovin’ Criminals and a hugely respected BBC 6 Music DJ, Huey has perfected the sound over decades as an in-demand DJ and musician. Then again, as a music obsessive growing up in the Lower East Side of New York, he lived and breathed the sound and the fashion of the times, making him the perfect host for the NYC Block Party.
From Chic to Donna Summer and Kool and the Gang to James Brown via Grandmaster Flash and The Jackson 5 and more recent flavours like Jurassic 5, Cypress Hill and Michael Kiwanuka, Huey’s NYC Block Party is the sound of funk, soul, disco and hip hop jams battling it out on the dancefloor, a riotous celebration of the Good Times. As The Sugar Hill Gang might have said: ‘Huey will make you throw your hands up in the air like you just don’t care.’

This half term, they’re opening the doors to SoapWorks and giving you the chance to go on a science adventure with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s Tropical Time Machine!
Located inside the Lyceum in what was once the Port Sunlight’s schoolroom, SoapWorks is an interactive exhibition which explores why we need soap, how it gets made, what we like to buy and why, and all the different ways we use it. SoapWorks is usually only open to schools and education groups, so this is a special opportunity for families to visit.
The Tropical Time Machine

The Tropical Medicine Time Machine will be at SoapWorks between Thursday 22 February – Saturday 24 February and free to enjoy as part of your ticket. Come explore the science of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and be transported into the past to learn about its early years and visit ‘behind the sciences’ of its present-day laboratories and herpetarium! You can also chat to some of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s scientists and learn more about the work they do as the institute celebrates its 125th anniversary.

Following on from their Eurovision themed family friendly party in 2023, Walker Art Party returns! The theme this year will be Renaissance, in which they will celebrate the art from this period following the opening of their new Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque galleries.
This will be a quirky, interactive day with a variety of creative activites taking over the galleries, which visitors of all ages can get involved with. Entry will be free, however some activities will be charged for.

Join the team at the Walker Art Gallery for a guided tour of our Pre-Raphaelite collection. The Pre-Raphaelites were a group of reactionary young men who came together in London in 1848 seeking a return to the principles of the early Renaissance.
Their tour guides will reveal the captivating stories behind pieces produced by members of the Brotherhood and their circle, and how Liverpool artists embraced Pre-Raphaelitism.
Highlighted art includes work by John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, Ford Madox Brown, and work produced by Morris & Co.

The Dip into Pride Bath was created by mosaic artist Natasha Ellis after Photographer, Curator and Arts Producer, Laura McCann asked her to produce an interactive installation for Pride 2023.
The aim of the project was to encourage people to immerse themselves in the spirit of equality for all. The DIP Bath will be situated in the window of the main entrance of Museum of Liverpool, as starting point to explore stories from the city’s LGBTQ+ community, already in the venues collections and displays.
This will be one of the last times the installation will be shown in public before it is ultimately auctioned, with all proceeds going to the Liverpool Charity, Sahir.
