TreeStory.me website

The brand new TreeStory.me website is now live!

Trees are the perfect vehicle through which to tell a story of the region. Open Eye Gallery and dot-art started inviting the public to create a history of Liverpool through its trees, using personal stories and photography, during the pandemic in 2020, as we all began to value our local green spaces more than ever.

Now they are developing the project further and looking for new TreeStories to collect with a specially dedicated website – TreeStory.me.

This has been funded through a generous grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which saw the team engage schools (Rainhill High School, LIPA Primary, Egremont Primary, Northwood Primary and Wirral Hospitals’ School), community groups (Growing Sudley, Faiths4Change, Rimrose Valley Friends and The Spider Project) and the general public across the Liverpool City Region over the last 12 months, exploring natural heritage by investigating, documenting and celebrating locally and personally significant trees, as well as planting new ones in partnership with the Mersey Forest.

This work has led to a series of fantastic free activity books for families, schools and community groups to download, full of activities and ideas to inspire and stimulate creativity in people of all ages!

Everyone is now invited to celebrate trees that are significant to them, pinning images and stories to a specially commissioned interactive online map. There’s an easy How To Guide to help: make some images of the tree, write or record the story (a history, a poem or just a personal memory), use the map to locate the tree and submit your entry.

The team will review it and publish. There’s also a video guide and FAQs. Get inspired by the existing TreeStories, study the history of Liverpool through its trees and submit your own #TreeStory!

Uploading your TreeStory is a fantastic way of connecting to your neighbourhood and community, of creating your own personal history and of sharing your love and gratitude to nature in the urban areas. It’s also a great opportunity for an early career photographer / writer or photography / creative writing student to get their work seen by not just the general public but also Open Eye Gallery and dot-art.

Artist Tour with The Bandidos

Learn more about FACT’s current exhibition from the collaborators themselves! When Our Worlds Meet (2022) is a new work by artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley produced in collaboration with The Bandidos, a group of young people from Liverpool.

Throughout this year-long project, Danielle worked alongside the self-titled Bandidos to discover what the group would want and need in their reimagined worlds. Exploring alternative futures and possibilities, they discussed what their realities might be missing and what they would want to include in new worlds designed by them.

For this tour, join members of the group to hear about their involvement in the project and what it’s like to work closely with an artist. Discover how Danielle built the video game artwork around their imaginative visions and how each young person is represented in the game and exhibition space.

This tour will last between 45-60 minutes.

Bombed Out Church Beer Festival

Bombed Out Church Beer and Cider Festival 2023

St Luke’s Bombed Out Church, Liverpool city centre.

Thursday 20th – Sunday 22nd April 2023

St Luke’s Bombed Out Church are hosting their very own festival featuring a huge array of beers, ciders, real ales, lager, gins, prosecco and more.

St Luke’s Bombed Out Church sits proudly at the top of Bold Street in the city centre, but many have yet to venture inside this magnificent ruin. The church was bombed during WWII in the May Blitz of 1941, leaving just the exterior walls standing surrounded by glorious gardens.

For this weekend, we will install clear roof marquees in order to provide covering for our guests whilst still maintaining a glorious view of the surroundings.

We will have street food vendors on site and live music to add to the festival atmosphere.

We offer discount on tokens for all CAMRA members with a valid card at our Thursday evening and Friday daytime sessions.

Session Times & Prices

– Thursday 20th April 6pm – 10.30pm £8

CAMRA discount available at this session, £2 off a full sheet of tokens

– Friday 21st April 12pm – 4.30pm £8 (no live music at this session)

CAMRA discount is available at this session, £2 off a full sheet of tokens

– Friday 21st April 6pm – 10.30pm £12

– Saturday 22nd April 12pm – 4.30pm £11

– Saturday 22nd April 6pm – 10.30pm £10

– Sunday 23rd April 12pm – 5pm £6

These prices are for advance online tickets only.

If there are any tickets left then tickets purchased on the door will be charged at a slightly higher rate.

All tickets include:

– Entrance to the magnificent ruins and gardens of St Luke’s Bombed Out Church, where we have sourced up to 100 real ales, ciders, craft and draught beers, along with our fabulous gin / alternatives bar.

– Digital programme with taste notes on all the beers to help you with your choice of drink.

– Souvenir glass to use throughout the festival and to take home with you at the end of the festival!

– Entertainment for the session purchased (besides Friday daytime)

*PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of beer festivals and ever-changing tastes we are unable to predict the popularity of the beers before the event. The most popular individual casks will run out as the festival progresses. Our Beer Co-ordinator monitors this at each event and orders accordingly – but because we also like to have a lot of new beers it is nigh on impossible for us to tell which will run out first! We oversupply on beer as a whole by 20% at all of our festivals which means there’s a hefty amount to pour away at the end – and we hate waste! We apologise if you have ever been disappointed by a beer running out, but there is still always ample amounts of real ale to drink throughout the festival!

Please bear this information in mind when selecting a session.

No Under 18s are permitted into the event

If you are lucky enough to look under the age of 25 you will be asked for ID at the door. No refunds will be given to anyone unable to prove their age when asked.

Booking fees apply to all tickets as per Eventbrite’s Terms and Conditions

Digital Projections: The Lunar Rabbit

This free event is part of Chinese New Year 2023, Liverpool’s free festival.

This spectacle invites communities around Liverpool to come together and celebrate, through a modern and stunning projection show and light installation at St Lukes Bombed Out Church. No ticket required for event entry.

For the Year of the Rabbit, Focal Studios are partnering up with artists Eleonora Asparuhova and Laura Sullivan to create a magnificent focus for celebrations at the Bombed Out Church. This will take the form of a 6 minute projection show on the tower inside, and a community light art installation situated in the grounds.

The Lunar Rabbit is a contemporary story about hope developed with Pagoda Arts and the local Chinese community. The story will reflect themes in response to the Rabbit’s personality, such as vigilance, wit, quick-mindedness, and ingenuity; as well as stories and aspirations of community members in the city from other nations that celebrate the lunar new year.

Wong Dumplings will be serving up some delicious dumplings, inspired by Asian & European cuisine and Bombed Out Church Garden Bar & Cafe will have hot & cold drinks available too!

Community workshops will also take place during the day on the 23rd, where the general public is invited to create Chinese zhezhi rabbits containing messages of hope for 2023, details and times to be confirmed.

We look forward to seeing you at the Bombed Out Church this Chinese New Year!
