Silent Adventures

Royal Albert Dock Liverpool is excited to bring Silent Adventures, the UK’s latest craze which takes attendees on a silent walking and dancing disco tour, to the dock for two days on the bank holiday weekend, Friday 26th August and Monday 29th August.

Specially themed to tie in with the dock’s summer campaign, The Great British Seaside, Silent Adventures will take visitors on a disco tour around the dock passing through some of the most scenic spots on the estate, with iconic musical moments planned throughout.

Each of the tours are carefully planned out with a surprising amount of psychology running through their foundations. At the beginning, each participant will be made to feel at ease with their fellow adventurers and given a pair of high-tech headphones for their soundtrack, before their hilarious, neon leg-warmer wearing host will enhance the experience with instructions for choreographed dance moves to match the music.

With barriers broken down and the combined confidence of the group at the ready, participants will begin their silent disco adventure at Anchor Courtyard outside Madre before they embark on their singing and dancing adventure around the dock. The upbeat soundtrack has been carefully curated to cover a mix of genres and eras, to ensure the highest level of participation.

Three tours are available on each of the days, two family-friendly daytime sessions and an adult session. The family sessions will finish at Tate Liverpool, where children will be treated to a complimentary little takeaway bag including crisps, fruit and a piece of cake from the Tate Cafe, whilst the adult route will finish at Madre where participants can choose to keep the party going with an extended happy hour offering their renowned Margaritas for just £6.

Silent Adventures founder, Alan Cross, comments, “We’re so excited to bring Silent Adventures to Liverpool’s iconic Royal Albert Dock. It’s such a unique, mood-lifting experience that allows participants to lose their inhibitions and try something completely new, and this paired with the stunning setting of the dock will deliver a truly memorable experience that promises a feel good factor that will last for days on end”.

The family tour tickets are priced at £12.00, and the adult tour tickets are priced at £16.95, pre-booking is essential and tickets can be bought from:

Windmill Walk Tour

Have you seen the Windmill installation on William Brown Street?

Winds of Change was commissioned by St George’s Quarter CIC and has been designed by artist Simon Armstrong of Design Laser Play in collaboration with artist Laura Pullig and with support from DoES Liverpool. The work was commissioned by Culture Liverpool and supported by Arts Council England.

It is a working windmill installation that celebrates the past, present and future of St George’s Quarter, its links to industry and the development of the city of Liverpool as a whole.

So why a Windmill? and why there?

William Brown Street was originally known as Shaw’s Brow, an area of Liverpool growing with industry, including potteries and also the site of a windmill. This inspired St Georges CIC with to recreate the windmill and return it to William Brown Street.

Shaw’s Brow was also a major centre for pottery in Liverpool with numerous kilns visible in the area and producing at the time the popular ceramics of English Delftware (the distinctive blue and white pottery originally produced in the Netherlands).

The collection of Liverpool Delftware held at the Walker Art Gallery provided inspiration, leading to a concept for the design and the technical aspects for wind generated power to provide LED illumination.

FREE Walking Tours from ArtsGroupie – 20 August, 11am and 3pm

Join John Maguire from ArtsGroupie CIC for a heritage walk around William Brown Street, formerly known as Shaws Brow, St Johns Gardens and St Georges Hall.

They will explore the rich history of the area, including the Mills that helped grind the grain into flour for bread making and the renowned cultural assets in St Georges Quarter. Meet at the windmill at 11am or 3pm.

Teach Rex: Velociraptor Show

The award-winning Liverpool based, Teach Rex team are delighted to be bringing this unique, interactive dinosaur show back to Camp & Furnace.

Teach Rex uses life-like dinosaurs to perform their 45-minute show, teaching children about the anatomy and life of one the most mesmerizing creatures that have ever roamed our planet.  The show is teamed with effects, music and gives children and their families the chance to get up close and personal with these fantastic, realistic beasts.

The new show will delve into the jaws of one of the most iconic dinosaurs to ever roam the world, the Velociraptor. Delivered by primary school teachers, the team will take the audience on an interactive, prehistoric journey, pinpointing misconceptions surrounding the velociraptor and the audience will learn how this iconic beast would have actually looked. Meet various Velociraptors and the only fully feathered velociraptor in the world amongst others, giving the audience a realistic insight into these fascinating creatures.

The show is suitable for children of all ages (3+ recommended) and has even proven to be extremely popular with adults. The educational part of the show runs for approximately 45 minutes followed by a dinosaur meet and greet when families can get photographs next to the beasts whilst enjoying a dance.
