A Lovely Word featuring Suhaiymah Manz...

And they’re back for 2022! A Lovely Word is back at its spiritual and literal home; downstairs at the Everyman.

A Lovely Word is Liverpool’s most eclectic poetry night, featuring two halves of open mic poets, and a headliner beginning the first half. Hosted by Alex Ferguson, this free event is a fun, relaxed and friendly evening of performance poetry.

This month’s headliner Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan is a writer, poet and educator disrupting understandings of history, race, knowledge and violence.

Klub Kids Liverpool: Drag Domination

Back by popular demand, Drag Domination is back this January/February. Hosted by the queen of the battered sausage Baga Chipz. Plus 4 of your favourite queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3. Kitty Scott Claus, River Medway, Choriza May and Elecktra Fence.

Expect an evening of sickening Drag Domination, high energy performances with hilarious comedy.

New Mersey Poets’ Blast! evening

Welcome to the inaugural New Mersey Poets’ Blast! evening (upstairs) at Jimmy’s. Blast! is music, Spoken Word and comedy – and features some of Merseyside’s most talented performers.

For Blast #1 they have spoken word from the brilliant Lumenaate and the amazing Wordy Lirpa. Lumenaate’s urban poetry is an absolute delight, and Wordy’s inaugural poetry and music evening Outspoken was one of Liverpool’s cultural highlights of December.

There will be laughs aplenty (he assures us) from the mysterious Barry Comedy, and after the Blast Pop Culture Quiz Spot the Bastard (answer number 7 is ‘Michael Gove’), there will be comedy and spoken word from Saint Vespaluus.

Saint headlined downstairs at Jimmy’s in October, and is a regular on the Liverpool Spoken Word scene. His poems and tales take in gender fluidity and how language abuse controls society, but there’s also lots of references to 80s electro pop stars, Scouse dads morphing into pirates and how the good old days were actually sh*t. Really sh*t!

Matthew-Loughlin Day is one of Merseyside’s most talented musicians. Matty has curated two Shipwrecked festivals in the past six months, and is taking an evening off from his brilliant band The Shipbuilders to perform some of his equally ace solo songs.

Paul Chowdhry: Family-Friendly Comedia...

Following a complete sell-out 2021 tour, star of global smash hit Live Innit, Taskmaster, and the first British-Asian stand-up to sell-out London’s Wembley Arena, comes to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall!

After barely surviving the pandemic, and with two years of pent-up killer material, Paul tackles the UK’s handling of the pandemic, why the rules of six only worked for white people, fame, England football fans and Tom Cruise landing his helicopter in someone’s garden.

Yellow Furry Lullaby

Artist collective Breakwater of Youngsook Choi and Taey Iohe present a powerful storytelling performance that brings awareness to the historical trauma of Chinese indentured labour.

The performance interweaves the 2004 Morecambe Bay cockling disaster and 2021 Atlanta spa shootings tragedy with the classic children’s story, We’re Going On a Bear Hunt, and symbols from Korean mythology. Yellow Furry Lullaby is a ritual and moment of collective healing performed alongside Fermented Flower (2021), a detailed tapestry by the artist duo that confronts the racist roots deeply embedded in the field of botany.

Breakwater is Youngsook Choi and Taey Iohe. Based in London, the Korean diaspora duo explore social practice across subject matters around climate justice and migrants’ lived experience.

This event is part of the Lunar New Year Weekend at FACT. Discover their full programme of events.

Jason Manford : Like Me 2022

He’s back! It’s been a busy few years for Jason Manford since his last smash-hit stand up show but fans of his Absolute Radio show will know this nationally acclaimed comedian hasn’t changed a bit.

‘Like Me’ is Jason’s latest comic offering set to hit the road, and is sure to be ‘expert observational comedy’ (The Guardian) mixed with ‘comic gold’ (Mail on Sunday).

Jason said: “After the fun we had on my last tour ‘Muddle Class’, I’m excited to get back on the road with my new stand up show, ‘Like Me’. In these trying times it’s always important to be able to get away for a couple of hours and exercise the old chuckle muscle! So I’m coming to a venue near you in 2021/2022 so we can have a good laugh together. See you then.”
