The Story Forge: Make A Rubbish Myth W...

Award-winning theatre company, Rubbish Shakespeare Company are joining forces with Silly History Boys to proudly present the first UK Tour of The Story Forge: Make Your Own Myth – a hilarious hour of high-octane adventure, told through their distinctive fusion of clowning, silly storytelling, physical comedy and live music, coming to Liverpool April 2025.

The Story Forge: Make Your Own Myth is an immersive, all-ages family show, where two larger-than-life history professors and a live musician make new myths from children’s ideas. Alongside the shows, 35 creative workshops are taking place with bespoke activity packs, encouraging attendees to create their own stories. Tickets for the exciting Liverpool workshop, led by Lee Hithersay from Rubbish Shakespeare and Dear Old Uncle Bob Bob from The Silly History Boys are linked below!

Enormous Vocal Ensemble with Joan As P...

Enormous Vocal Ensemble: A One-of-a-Kind Singing Experience!

Calling singers of all ages and abilities!

Enormous Vocal Ensemble is an exciting singing event in which the audience becomes an instant choir! Under the guidance of award-winning singing leader Jennifer John (Cream Classical, The Voice UK, Liverpool Complaints Choir), you’ll discover the powerful effects of collective singing.

Enormous Vocal Ensemble is designed for us to sing side by side and use our united voices in solidarity at a time when mainstream rhetoric often convinces us that we are different from one another! Let’s use our voices to connect, harmonise, instil confidence and celebrate community together.

The concept for Enormous Vocal Ensemble is this:

A song written by the guest artist is chosen

Jennifer John creates a unique choral arrangement of it and teaches it on the day to the audience who become Enormous Vocal Ensemble

The guest artist joins the event and sings the song with the ensemble

The event ends with a Q&A session

This year’s special guest is Joan Wasser aka Joan As Police Woman. She is a prolific singer/songwriter and an exceptional multi-instrumentalist whose uniquely distinctive sound continues to woo audiences globally, She approaches music and the creation of it like it is her second skin. She writes of love and loss in ways that are relatable and one cannot help but be drawn in by her intoxicating honesty.

The inexhaustible list of artists Joan has worked with is phenomenal and includes the late, great Nigerian/French master drummer and co-creator of Afrobeat, Tony Allen (Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Grace Jones, The Good The Bad & The Queen), MeShell Ndegeocello (fresh from her Grammy award for Best Alternative Jazz Album 2025), the divine Anohni and The Johnsons (formerly Anthony and The Johnsons), David Okumu (The Invisible, 7 Generations), Rufus Wainwright, Nora Jones, Gorillaz, Iggi Pop, Lou Reed and so many more.

About to embark on a world tour to promote her 12th album, Lemons, Limes and Orchids, Joan As Police Woman has graciously agreed to be the special guest for Enormous Vocal Ensemble which is a real honour. The song for this year’s workshop is What A World taken from her 8th album, Joanthology.

No prior singing experience is needed—just bring passion, compassion, open heartedness, curiosity, enthusiasm, some water and comfy clothes.

“A little bit of defiance always goes a lot further when we do it together!” Jennifer John x

Skylight Thursdays – Sweet: The ...

Did you have a favourite sweet? Did you ever work in a factory? Storytelling, memories and lived experience are at the heart of social history.

As part of the Sweet: The Taveners Story display in the Skylight Gallery, they would love you to share your stories, memories, and shared experiences of sweets or of factory life.

Come along to their Skylight Thursday session and share your stories with their team and to find out more about the Taveners factory on Beech Street, Liverpool by Edge Lane.

About Sweet: The Taveners Story

Mojos, Traffic Light lollipops, the Candy Queen contest and annual picnics were all part of everyday life at the Liverpool confectionary company Taveners.

Discover the history of this beloved local company in our display. Founded in 1885 Taveners originally produced pickles and sauces but quickly became famous for its boiled sweets sold in glass jars.

By 1931 they had created the original chocolate Eclair and other classics like Bovril Caramels and Fruit Drops. Even Mickey Mouse and Liverpool Football Club legends Emlyn Hughes and John Toshack visited the factory to promote the brand!

The annual staff picnic, with seaside trips and the Candy Queen contest, was a highlight for employees. This display at the Museum of Liverpool showcases Taveners’ remarkable legacy.
