Foley & Technical Sound Workshop

Join FACT for an interactive workshop that delves into the fascinating world of audio crafting through recording and post-production hosted by LMF and led by Dr Eddie Dobson (Post Sound Specialist and Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield).

Learn about the essential roles and the critical importance of sound in creating compelling films and TV shows. Over 2 hours, they’ll explore sound design and introduce you to the art of Foley—where everyday objects become the source of cinematic magic.

This hands-on session will allow you to use professional recording equipment to experiment with creating sound effects. By the end, you’ll have a practical understanding of how sound can support narratives, using post-production software to bring it all together. LMF will also take the sound files and upload them online for the participants to download and play with at home.

Whether you’re a budding filmmaker, a sound enthusiast, or just curious about the behind-the-scenes magic of movies, this workshop is perfect for you!

Please note that this event is for those aged 18 and above.

The Instinct Lab: Gut Grief

Join artists Unfinished Business (Anna and Leo) for a week of fun and fermentation at Incredible Edible Knowsley.

The Instinct Lab explores the connection between our gut, our intuition and instinct, our ancient ancestors (micro-organisms!), the cycle of life and death and how we can make positive decisions for our lives and the life of the world we inhabit.

Together, they invite you to build and contribute to The Home to the Spirit of the Ferment; a new community space to sit, to contemplate and connect with our ancestors (basically a garden shed where all the ferments that we will be making can transform). From 18th – 22nd June there’s a jam packed schedule of activities at Incredible Edible – from fermentation, carpentry and divination, to experimental art workshops.

Drop in every day to be part of building the shed, or book onto one of the free workshops happening in the space. Staying for the full day? A light lunch will be provided each day, but feel free to bring your own refreshments too.

FACT: Studio/Lab Workshop: Sound Art

Liverpool-based sound artists, Mali Draper and Beau Beaumont, invite you to join them for an experimental sound workshop.

Join two Liverpool-based sound artists, Mali Draper and Beau Beaumont, for a hands-on session exploring the links between synthesis and sound art, from live performance to interactive sonic devices. Their different approaches towards sound recording and synthesis explore using code and hardware to create sonic landscapes that reflect a sense of place, mystery, or playfulness.

Beau Beaumont is an artist and composer. Her works traverse ideas surrounding physical place, a means of connection mediated through sound and synthesis, computation and coding to carve out thought-provoking and left-of-centre performances.

Mali Draper is an artist and sound designer. She is interested in working with technology and designing interactive devices that behave mysteriously and spark curiosity to play, experiment and venture into what we do not yet know.

You don’t need any previous experience with sound production to take part in this workshop! All materials and equipment will be provided.
