Introduction to Mosaics

Looking for a unique experience for you and a friend? Or perhaps a distinctive Mother’s Day gift for an unforgettable shared experience? Look no further than this workshop!

Join Alison, their expert mosaic artist, for a beginner’s exploration of mosaic making, focusing on the fascinating technique of Pique Assiette to make a unique bird design.

Mosaic is the ‘art of imperfection’ and Pique Assiette is a style of mosaic that incorporates ceramic shards, broken china and other found objects into your design, adding character and depth to your creation.

During the workshop, Alison will lead you through:

Selecting the tools
Designing the shape and colour scheme
Different mosaic techniques
Grouting (with a demonstration)
Alison will provide a base design and the tools and tesserae you will need. You will leave with a unique and beautiful piece of art that you can treasure.

Note: There won’t be time to grout your piece at the class but guidance and a demonstration will be provided during the workshop to ensure you have the necessary skills if you wish to do this afterwards.

About the Practitioner: Alison is the creator of Make Mosaic Workshops and runs beginners classes in mosaics and other craft techniques across the North West. She has a love of using reclaimed china, beach finds and other unloved or found objects to make bespoke pieces.
