Let your creativity take off into orbit as you imagine yourself in the shoes (or moon boots!) of an astronaut. In this one-off workshop from Charlie of Read Now Write Now, you’ll write a diary entry in the style of an astronaut on a moon mission. You’ll learn about how to set the scene, show your emotions, and use grammar to make your story feel real.

Designing and Managing Arts Projects w...

This training adopts a nuts-and-bolts approach to designing and managing arts projects with a social impact from planning to evaluation.

Over two consecutive mornings attendees will be introduced to various concepts and approaches to support the planning and delivery of participatory arts projects.

Day 1 Topics:

  • What do we mean by social impact?
  • Ethics & community development
  • Understanding funding frameworks
  • Strategies for community consultation & power sharing

Day 2 Topics:

  • Approaches to project management
  • Designing and co-designing evaluation
  • Strategies for influencing provision, policy and practice
  • Sustainability and legacy of arts projects

This event is aimed at early to mid-stage artists, administrators and project managers in the arts, libraries and museums sector.

Length: Two consecutive mornings: Thursday 22nd June and Friday 23rd June. Each workshop will last 2.5 – 3 hours. You must be available for both dates.

Ticket Cost:

  • For attendees supported by their organisations the full price of a ticket is £75.00
  • For freelancers and individual attendees, the price of a ticket is £60.00
  • For those on low or no income the ticket price is £36.00

Orff UK International Summer School

Orff Uk are excited to be holding their International Summer School in Liverpool for the very first time!

The Summer School will take place at Liverpool Hope University and is for all who work musically and creatively with children and young people in or out of school. Workshops focus on the Orff Approach, combining vocal and instrumental music making, and movement. Tutors offer an exciting and stimulating range of ideas to develop your skills and understanding of improvising and composing with children, a key aspect in making music learning meaningful and engaging.

The workshops will be designed for those new to the Orff Approach and for the more experienced.

The programme includes a creative project ‘Sense of Place’ which uses inspiring places in Liverpool City to stimulate ideas for creating music and movement pieces. The tutors will lead you on a journey exploring memories, feelings, images and found sounds through audio recording, word capture and mark making.

The Art of Screenprinting – 4 we...

This course will run Thursday evenings at 5:30pm – 8:00pm for 4 consecutive weeks (27th July/3rd August/10th August/17th August)

The Art of Screenprinting is a comprehensive course suitable for beginners and intermediate printers alike. On completion you will be a knowledgeable, confident screenprinter and able to hire our printmaking facilities to use.

The course schedule is as follows:

Week 1 (27th July 5:30 – 8:00pm) You will learn the fundamentals of screenprinting and create experimental prints using hand cut paper stencils and monoprint.

Week 2 (3rd August 5:30 – 8:00pm) You will learn how to clean a screen and prepare it for printing, as well as coating your screen in UV sensitive emulsion and exposing it to create a permanent stencil for printing. You will then use your exposed screen to create a set of prints.

Week 3 (10th August 5:30 – 8:00pm) This week will teach you all about registration and how to use multiple screens to create multi-layered prints.

Week 4 (17th August 5:30 – 8:00pm) Your final week will teach you how to print onto fabric, utilising all you’ve learnt to understand the subtle changes needed in the screenprinting process to create great fabric prints.

All materials you will use are included in the cost of the course, but you are welcome to bring along your own if you choose. Their studios are environmentally friendly where possible and use greener methods of screen printing, such as water-based acrylic inks. Completing this course will act as an Induction. After becoming a Bluecoat Artist Member you will be able to book into their Screen Printing Studio should you wish to.

Introduction to Screen Printing

Learn the basics of UV screen-printing, a popular & versatile printing process that can be used on fabric & paper.

During this one day course you will learn the basics of screen printing, including learning about the materials used and processes involved in creating a UV exposed screen.

After preparing and exposing your own screen, you’ll get time to draw your own image to print, or you can bring a *suitable image with you. You’ll finish the workshop by using their screen-beds to ink and print your 2 colour designs onto paper in a small edition that you can take home with you.

The course runs for one day (11:00am – 5:00) with a break for lunch.

All materials you will use are included in the cost of the course, but you are welcome to bring along your own if you choose. Their studios are environmentally friendly where possible and use greener methods of screen printing, such as water-based acrylic inks. Completing this course will act as an Induction. After becoming a Bluecoat Artist Member you will be able to book into their Screen Printing Studio should you wish to.

Summer Botanical Cyanotype Workshop

Learn the intriguing process of Cyanotype Printing this Summer using the beautiful Bluecoat garden as a source of inspiration.

Cyanotype is a camera-less photographic printmaking technique that creates beautiful blue and white images.

On this short and informative course you will learn all about the process of cyanotype and what chemicals and materials are needed. You will be given an opportunity to collect leaves and flowers from their beautiful summer garden to create your prints, or you can bring your own. After preparing, exposing and creating your own bontaical cyanotypes you will have the knowledge to continue this amazing process at home, as well as your prints you’ve made on the day.

The course runs for 2.5 hours per session and there are two sessions, starting at 11:00am and 2:30pm.

All materials you will use are included in the cost of the course, but you are welcome to bring along your own if you choose. Their studios are environmentally friendly where possible and use greener methods of screen printing, such as water-based acrylic inks.

Experimental Screen Printing

You will learn various experimental methods for making stencils, resists, applying inks to your screen and creating beautiful one-of-a-kind abstract prints.
