Stained Glass Workshops

Based at their lovely stained glass studio on the first floor of One Hamilton Square, this 6 hour Olive Can Fly workshop will include:

•instructions on how to select and structure your piece
•how to cut glass
•how to use a diamond grinder
•the application and burnish of silver backed copper foil
•how to assemble and solder each glass piece together to create your sun catcher
•how to add the correct size jump ring and chain to securely hang your finished piece.

You will be able to select your sun catcher pattern from a wide range of patterns that will be provided. There will be a broad selection of stained glass to choose from.

Detailed health & safety guides and precautions will be taught throughout the day and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided along with all materials.

Eurovision Flower Crown Workshops

Booker Flowers and Gifts are running Eurovision Flower Crown Workshops, to teach people how to make their own Ukrainian Flower Crown, also known as a Vinok.

Made from sustainable dried flowers (so the Crown will last for Eurovision and beyond) these workshops will be run from a number of locations in Liverpool by our experienced Florists.

Workshop start times vary, venues and dates are listed below – people can choose from a workshop with coffee & cake, or a longer class that includes either a 2-course lunch or dinner or just a buffet:

Intersketch

Intersketch is a special six-week course by two professional artists Jen hardy and Merv Jones which is ideal for performers, writers or those who simply love being daft on stage.

The course starts and finishes with two full day sessions on Sunday May 7 and concluding on Sunday July 23. The whole course costs just £75.

Baby Book Club

Bluecoat’s popular Baby Book Club returns with a course of 10 weekly sessions for parents and carers with babies aged from 3 to 12 months.

Baby Book Club was developed by staff at the Bluecoat working alongside facilitators Roger Hill and Sara Han, who will be leading the course, to help new parents to develop their reading skills and techniques while encouraging their babies to engage with different books.

Each session includes discussion and sharing time, book recommendations and reviews, individual and group reading, and fun activities linked to the weekly core story. Their classes are a great way to spend quality time with your baby, meet new friends, and develop your baby’s love of books.

The course is 10 sessions long and costs £75 (only £7.50 per session), which includes a hot drink.

The course will take place weekly on Thursdays from Thu 4 May to Thu 13 Jul, 10:30-11:30am.

Vinok Workshop

To celebrate Liverpool holding Eurovision for Ukraine we will hold a vinok workshop at the Palm House.

The vinok is a traditional Ukrainian flower crown. This type of floral wreath is originally worn by girls and unmarried women in Ukraine. Made of delicate flowers, herbs and colourful ribbons, the vinok is one of the oldest symbols of Ukraine.

This session will be lead by an experienced artist and everything need to make your own vinok is included in the ticket price.

Getting Started on Instagram

Are you looking to set up an Instagram account to show off your artist practice or creative business? Have you tried Instagram out, but you’re not too sure how to use some of it’s functions? This session will cover all the basics to get you set up on Instagram.

The session will cover:

Selling your Online Products

This informal workshop session is ideal for people who have a handmade product, or an idea for one, and are considering starting to sell online.

This session will look at:

The different platforms available – and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Postage and packing
Photography
The legalities of selling online
Writing product descriptions.
It’s a brief overview of everything, but will give you plenty of information and signpost you to more in-depth sources of information.

Introduction to Tie Dye

An introduction to tie dye is a perfect class for everyone, whether you’ve done it before or you’re a complete beginner.

Bethan will walk you through the basics of tie die including:

– how to fold your material to create different patterns

– how to tie your material up

– dye application

– instruction on how to look after your tote bag.

Bethan is the founder of Buy by Bethan – you can check her out her wonderful creations here

Within this class you will be provided with a plain tote bag to dye to your preferred style.

You also have the option to bring along your own item to be creative with .

If you do decide to bring your own item please ensure it is light in colour and made from natural fibres such as cotton, rayon, linen, lyocell, silk or denim.

Protective equipment will be provided including an apron and gloves, however the dye can be messy so please don’t wear your best clothes.

Refunds will be offered in the event of the event being cancelled, alternative dates will be offered if appropriate.

This is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes.

Reworking Clothing: Paint & Decor...

This workshop is facilitated by Bethan , the founder of Buy by Bethan – you can check her out her wonderful creations here

Join Bethan at Make North Docks to learn a variety of techniques to give a new lease of life to your old items of clothing!

The workshop will include:

– painting

– drawing and writing on your clothes to give them a whole new look.

– various techniques and methods for up cycling a garment – without sewing!

– cutting

– adding embellishments such as pins, diamonds

– distressing fabric

Please ensure you bring a clean item of clothing along, this could be a blazer, a leather jacket, a denim jacket or some jeans.

What to expect:

The session will begin with a show and tell element for an item Bethan has reworked, along with a sketching session for you to get your ideas on to paper about how you would like your garment to look.

There will be a short teaching section where the variety of techniques that can be used will be showcased on a ‘template’ garment.

You will then be free to unleash your creativity and upcycle your garment using the tools provided – Bethan will be around to help with any questions or hands on advice needed.
