Pyrography Wood Burning

Would you like to learn a new, addictive, enjoyable and refreshing skill which has its roots in nature and ancient cultural traditions?

Now is your chance to learn pyrography (wood burning), in a step by step, easy to follow workshop, which is suitable for beginners – no experience necessary!

You will be taught how to hold the pyrography tool safely and make a variety of marks on wood, as well as how to burn different shades to create tonal depth.

You will get to experiment with scale and composition, by creating …

a large wooden slice pyrography design or wooden chopping board

AND a coaster or wooden spoon.

The design you create can be of anything you like – inspiration images will be provided, but feel free to bring along any imagery you might like to take ideas from. Once your designs have been burnt into the natural wood you will be shown how to seal your design with Danish oil.

This workshop will be lead by Helen Jones theartdoctoruk

Any child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and we operate a no under 10 policy.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

On street parking is free but limited to 2 hours. Alternatively you can park in our visitor car park. We have 2 parking spaces in the Make North Docks car park that will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Public transport links are nearby, and the venue is easily accessible on foot from Liverpool City Centre (see our website for more information, we’re located at Make North Docks).

The workshop is located on the ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. We would advise wheelchair users to contact the workshop provider on the sale of the ticket to arrange a parking bay.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Feel free to get in touch with the Make CIC office at 0151 601 8665 or email hello@makecic.org

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

No, a register will be taken at the workshop, it isn’t necessary to print your ticket.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

Refunds will be offered in the event of the class being cancelled – in this instance we will give as much notice as possible, usually at least 5 days, and offer alternative dates if appropriate.

This class does have a minimum requirement of ticket sales to proceed, so there is a possibility of it being cancelled, but we will contact you five days before if this is the case.

If for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 7 days before the workshop.

This is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes.

*Refunds will be given minus Eventbrite fees, unless Make CIC cancel the class, in which case a full refund will be given*

Bee Happy: An Introduction to Bees and...

You may know how important honey bees are for pollinating food crops and the environment, but you may not know about the amazing life of bees in their hive. In this short course you will gain insight into the life of a honey bee colony, and understand what beekeeping involves.

During this workshop you will learn in a hands-on way about the life of a honey bee colony, exploring the ins and outs of a hive and running through the stages of hive activity through the year.

A demonstration hive will allow you to also experience the textures and smells of the inside of a hive.

We will talk through the equipment needed to keep bees, and for those who are thinking about it, talk through steps to keeping your own bees.

After refreshments, we will be pulling on protective bee gear, and gaining some hands on experience with the Make Hamilton bee hives. You will have the opportunity to hold a frame of live bees, and gain confidence in handling a colony.

All equipment/ protective bee suits will be provided, but please come wearing long sleeved tops, full length trousers and closed shoes (i.e. no sandals).

Through the session, we will talk about the products from the hive, and you will have the chance to experience these including honey combs and extracted wax.

Each person will leave with a jar of our Hamilton Honey.

The session is led by John, who started keeping bees over 15 years ago, and is responsible for looking after the hives at Make Hamilton.

Botanical Clay Casting

This workshop is suitable for all abilities and will enable you to create a beautiful keepsake with ease.

The botanical art tiles are made by pressing plants, flowers & objects into clay. They are then removed & plaster is poured over to create the cast. The process picks up an incredible amount of detail to create a beautiful raised impression.

In this workshop we will create two works of art – both the clay imprint and the plaster cast, in a shape and size of your choice. A lovely memory of summer flowers, or perhaps more sentimental flowers – a dried wedding bouquet or a relatives favourite flower could be pressed to create a treasured keepsake. The Botanical Impressions and casts make ideal gifts for garden and nature lovers too.

The artist will demonstrate how to roll out your clay, imprint your foliage and create a frame to pour in the plaster of Paris. This will then set over lunch.

After lunch we will delicately paint the plaster cast using acrylic paints and a drybrushing and rubbing technique shown. We can then add a D ring hook to the back of each art piece so they can be hung on the wall or they can be placed on a stand to display.

Spring Sound Bath for Renewal

Soften into spring ready for new growth with this restorative Sound Bath. Singing Bowls, Voice, Gong and Cacao are here as your guides Join the event returning to Scale for another Sound Healing session!

This session is designed to help you release the heaviness of winter, of the beginning of the year, of all you no longer want to carry, and return to a self that feels brighter, lighter and ready to grow into your spring.

The month of March marks a very particular moment in our year. This month is governed by Mars, the God of War, and can feel somewhat like a battle; between the seasons, between dark and light, between our hibernating winter selves and our more social spring selves, between who we have been, and who we hope to grow into. The energy of this month calls for advancement and movement: to look to the future and release the past.

The third month of the year is here to remind us not to fall asleep on our laurels: it is time to act according to our true desires and our inspirations, but this requires first introspection and a gathering of energy.

This sound bath is designed to help you release any burdens, tensions + stresses you’ve been carrying and to reconnect with the deep seed of yourself that you most desire to water and see grow. To bolster your energy and strengthen the connection to your purpose.

The session will start with the sharing of ceremonial cacao to guide you into open heartedness, to help you soften into calm and creativity and to help get clarity on your deepest desires.

When used together the therapeutic sound and the ceremonial cacao work as one to maximise the therapeutic effect and enhance your experience.

After sharing cacao and dropping into some mindfulness the healing sonic vibrations will flow in. The sound is composed in such a way to help you deeply relax and lower your brainwave frequency so you can receive deep rest, process anything that needs shifting for you, and step back into synchronicity with yourself.

They’ll be using Himalayan singing bowls to connect to your lower chakras, crystal bowls to connect to your higher, singing and chanting, and sounding a beautiful, heart chakra opening Gong tuned to the frequency of Venus.

Its gentle tones evoke positive emotions such as joy, love, harmony, beauty and compassion and it allows us to spiritually surrender with grace, to explore our creativity and imagination and find things which bring us comfort and balance.

At this time of transitions when many of us feel tentative about change, Venusian energy reminds us all that we already contain within us, and strengthens the connection to our deepest, most creative, joyful, aligned selves. The sounds of the Venus gong are blissful, and sooth away concerns and worries, bringing balance, strength, renewal and hope.

After the Sound bath you will have the opportunity to share your experience or simply bathe in the after glow of the healing.

They wanted to create this session as a way to help us shift seasonal energies from winter to spring, a sort of transition tonic, a mental massage, so we can really maximise our spring growth and step into ourselves more in this next season!
