Convenience Gallery Life Drawing July

Convenience Gallery CIC host a monthly life drawing session.

This takes place in the bar/ coffeeshop at Bloom too, so you can get a drink whilst you work on your drawings. (At Bloom bar & Coffee 100% of the £’s you spend go to support the work of the Open Door Charity. How boss is that?!).

This is a session for people of all levels. It is untaught so that means bringing along whatever materials you want to work with and have fun with it. There will be a mixture of poses; both short and long. There will be a 20 minute break at the halfway point to.

Poses will start at 6:45pm, so please arrive in good time.

They will have some materials available if you forget yours, but please bring along whatever you wish to work with. Whether thats pens, pencils, paint, canvas, carcoal, paper, or something completely different bring it along.

They use Life Drawing to help fundraise to continue to do their work with the community. As a not for profit, your support at events like this helps them massively.

Please let them know at least 7 days in advance for cancellation where possible, this is a popular class and they will look to reallocate your place if you are unable to attend.

Japanese Painting Workshop

Paint with traditional / Contemporary Japanese painting techniques.

Explore your creative side and discover new techniques with this fun workshop experience.

Learn from an experienced local artist, who’ll teach you how to paint using traditional materials like bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi (Traditional Japanese colours), rice paper board or stretched silk on a bamboo Frame or fan.

We will bring along a selection of references from the different Japanese art movements like Ukiyo-e and Rinpa School. We will also introduce the seasonal topics that help you to capture some stunning Japanese scenes.

This painting class is suitable for beginners as well as those with a little more artistic experience, so don’t worry if it’s your first time. Your teacher will be on hand to provide guidance and answer any questions.

At the end of your art class, you’ll get the chance to stand back and admire your beautiful Japanese painting or you can share your experiences with the group. You’ll head home with your completed piece and a new skill that’s perfect to practice whenever you’re looking to clear your head.

This workshop is located in a spacious Tea Shop and Bar in West Kirby. Delicious food and drinks are available to purchase.

Linocut & Print for Beginners

Experienced tutor & Artist Catherine Carmyllie is hosting a class in her own studio – Linocut & print.

A creative workshop with Liverpool based Artist Catherine Carmyllie in her quirky artist studio space. Catherine has over 25 years experience teaching arts and crafts across many subjects such as drawing, painting mixed media, textile techniques like stitch, felt, dye, print.

The studio can accommodate up to 6 students comfortably. From this ground floor creative unit, Catherine runs her small online business selling her own artwork along with arts materials & equipment – all over the world! Here she packs up orders with her 2 Artist friends – fitting in some of her own creative work when time allows. Come & experience a workshop class here, meet Catherine and immerse yourself in the creative world of an Artist.

Linocut is a super easy activity with great results. Made popular by Picasso & Matisse, you will work with lino cutting tools to carve your design onto a lino sheet. Work with Catherine’s templates or come up with your own idea – plenty advise available to show you a best approach.

In this beginners class, Catherine has plenty examples for ideas from her own work and past students. Make this as easy or difficult as you like! Use any of Catherine’s 20 ink colours or mix your own. Also try out the print press. Work onto papers or make your own cards/postcards. You will be working with your own printing kit with an option to buy this kit at the end of the workshop so you can continue being creative at home.

WARNING – this activity is super addictive.

Suitable age 11 upwards supervised.

Willful Misfits: Head’s Up

Willful Misfits, Liverpool based arts organisation, are excited to share their new project Heads Up is a three-day, Drama and Film project specifically led for Neurodiverse young people aged 10 – 13yr olds.

The workshops will include, drama, poetry, drawing, story making and filming. It is a chance to get creative, share stories, learn new skills and make new friends in a creative, tolerant environment.

They  will run from 10.30am – 3.30pm on Wed 10 Aug, Thu 11 Aug & Fri 12 Aug at the Everyman Theatre, Hope Street.

The workshops will be led by Professional Neurodiverse Community Artists Dawneey Warren and Abi Horsfield.

Shared Reading from The Reader Bookshe...

Experience Shared Reading in this one-hour session, where we make a start to this great book.

This first novel by Alice Walker plots the lives of several generations of a southern Black sharecropping family. Alice Walker has described how painful it was to write, and it’s not easy to read. But it’s still wonderful and worthwhile, a moving, powerful novel full of complex truths.

Copies of the book will be provided for reading, and may be bought on the day. No need to read in advance.
