Evening Prayer and a performance of a Bach cantata by Liverpool Bach Collective.
The Collective usually consists of eight singers and an ensemble of around ten players, generally strings, oboes, bassoon and organ. The performers are a mix of professional, semi-professional and amateur musicians, all of whom have a love for the music of Bach and are united in their passion and their commitment in performing these wonderful works.
In Cantata 37, Bach sets Saint Luke’s gospel text of the centurion, whose servant has just been cured, is praised for his great faith. After a fine bass aria, “Faith creates the wings of the soul”, the cantata ends with a plea for the gift of strong faith.
