Liverpool Flower School Class

Join the group for an afternoon of floristry on Sunday 19th June for an enjoyable couple of hours of flower arranging.

This class will cover a selection of different floral techniques to make a ‘Continental’ floral arrangement design including fresh flowers. The floral design you create will be perfect to take home to brighten up your day.

If you have been to a previous class you can still attend as you will learn something new and create something special. However, no previous experience is needed as Florists will be on hand to help and assist you (if needed).

This class is a fun way to learn about flower arranging from a professional Florist at our shop on Booker Avenue Liverpool L18 4QY – perfect for a girls’ day out or a great way to de-stress after a busy week at work! Just remember to wear warm clothes, as their shop is always cold (to keep the flowers fresh!)

If you would like to buy this class for someone else they can send out a Gift Voucher – just state if a Flower School Gift Voucher is required when booking. It would make a great gift.

Booker Flowers and Gifts Florists are looking forward to teaching you how to make a bespoke Continental flower arrangement with fresh flowers at Booker Flowers on Booker Avenue, Liverpool.

The 12th Wirral Open Studio Tour

This year’s Wirral Open Studio Tour returns with a weekend of creativity and colour on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th June.

Now in its 12th year of celebrating visual arts across the peninsula, this free event will see 60 artists and makers open the doors to their homes or studios. The Tour gives visitors an exciting opportunity to access creative spaces not usually open to the public, chat to artists about their processes, and view their work in the environment in which it is created.

There will be a hugely diverse selection of artworks on show, from original paintings, prints, glass and textiles to photography, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery. At each venue you’ll find the artist ready to welcome you and show you around. Much of the work on show will be for sale so you can, if you wish, take away a piece of original artwork to treasure.

After a challenging couple of years, they are delighted to return to their usual June slot and are really excited about the line-up for this year’s show.

All studios are open from 10am-5pm on Saturday 11th June and Sunday 12th June, with some venues also open from 6pm-9pm on Friday 10th June.

For more information and to download a tour brochure, visit the Wirral Open Studio Tour website at wirralarts.com or pick up a guide from a library, gallery, community centre, café or shop near you.

The Owl & the Pussy-Cat Sculpture...

After months of planning, preparation (and painting!) Knowsley is almost set to launch one of the highlights of its year as the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture – the Owl & the Pussy-Cat Sculpture Trail.

From 20 June until 4 September 2022 huge, elaborately decorated, owls and pussy-cats will be out and about across the borough for people to spot and record on a free downloadable app.

Designed and decorated by artists and members of the local community the huge creatures will be popping up all over Knowsley in parks, town centres and other locations – some of which you might not expect. People are encouraged to get out and about, spot the creatures, capture their photos and record them on the app (which will be free to download once the trail launches next month).

The trail was announced in September last year and a competition was launched for artists to submit their design ideas to decorate the 32 large owls and pussy-cat sculptures. In addition, local schools have also been working on designs for a further 50 smaller sculptures which will also be on display in Knowsley during the summer months.

How may can you spot The Owl and The Pussy-Cat Trail?

Download the FREE app now.

The trail commemorates the fact that Edward Lear wrote his world-famous poem – The Owl and the Pussy-Cat – during his time living at Knowsley Hall. You can read more about Edward Lear and his time spent in Knowsley and you can read the famous Owl and Pussy-Cat poem.

The incredible owl and pussycat sculptures have been produced by Wild in Art in conjunction with Knowsley Council. Find out more about Wild in Art here.

Terrazzo Coasters: Level 1 Terrazzo Wo...

Love terrazzo? Learn the technique whilst making your own coaster set!

During this session, you will learn how to make a pair terrazzo-pattern coasters using an eco-resin material called Jesmonite.

In recent years, Jesmonite has become the go-to material for designers and artists looking for an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional resin based products. Originally used in the construction industry, Jesmonite is an acrylic-modified gypsum (plaster) composite that offers an eco-friendly and safe alternative to fibreglass, and provides a lightweight substitute to concrete.

The workshop will last approximately 3.5 hours, during which you will create your own terrazzo coasters. You will have the choice to make a pair of round or square coasters with your choice of unique colours that matches your styles and/or the colours of your interior.

The session will be broken down in 3 parts with a 30 minutes break in between each, which will allow your creations to dry as well as provide us with the opportunity for a short natter over a coffee.

Aurélie, their resident terrazzo extraordinaire and founder of Aura Living will teach you all there is to know about this eco-resin material, its different applications, and show you some other homeware accessory examples we have been making using this great material. She will also show you how to achieve any colour chips and/or base you wish to make using primary colour pigments.

A little more about Aurélie…

“With a working background as an interior designer, I began my journey with traditional ceramic making about 4 years ago. Unfortunately, during the first lockdown, I was no longer able to access the pottery studio which made me research other crafts and activities I could practice from home.

I discovered the world of eco-resin and its endless possibilities when I purchased a DIY kit to try it for myself. I fell in love with the process, the ease of use and little requirement for specialised equipment or space, while allowing you to create hardwearing homeware accessories using a wide range of techniques, including my most favourite; terrazzo!.

As a designer, my imagination exploded with the prospect of all the ideas I could materialise using this material. I am now so excited to be sharing my knowledge of this product for you to discover and try out a new craft skill.”

A note about the class:-

The class may not be suitable for people who have any wrist problems as there is quite a lot of sanding involved in the process.

Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit of water splashed. The paint used will wash off, but avoid wearing your best clothes!
