Kitty: Queen of the Washhouse

This critically acclaimed show, directed by Margaret Connell, and written by John Maguire, tells the ‘‘against all odds” story of how a 19th century working-class Irish emigree became a community champion, earning the title “Saint of the Slums”.

Incorporating music and song as well as creative visual effects, the audience is immersed in Kitty’s life story, invited to explore the political and social climate of the period, and to celebrate a truly inspiring female hero.

Community Chronicles

Join Collective Encounters for Community Chronicles, a culmination of four years’ work with local people and organisations in Bootle, Birkenhead, and Knowsley. Community Chronicles explores four themes: isolation, struggle, community and hope. It asks what do these words mean in challenging times?

The Pioneering Monks of Birkenhead

Join local historian Dr Stephen Roberts and find out more about the history of Birkenhead Priory, the oldest standing building on Merseyside.

It was said that visitors to the remains of the once glorious Birkenhead Priory would not have been aware of its former power and influence:

“They could scarcely recall now the beauty of its former setting. These folk as they stood there looking about them with eyes of interest., could have no idea what the Priory had once been as it stood on its beautiful peninsula, surrounded on three sides by water, a headland of oak and birch and meadow crowned with red sandstone”.

Dr Roberts’ talk will cover the fascinating history of Birkenhead Priory and the influence of the founding fathers, whose estates once extended across the Wirral Peninsula for several miles and included the ancient manor of Claughton.

An event from Wirral Archaeology.

Zog

Based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

Large in size and keen in nature, Zog is eager to win a golden star at Madam Dragon’s school, where dragons learn all the things that dragons need to know.

Zog tries so very hard, perhaps too hard, and he bumps, burns and roars his way through years one, two and three. Luckily, the plucky Princess Pearl patches him up ready to face his biggest challenge yet…a duel with knight, Sir Gadabout the Great!

The smash-hit stage adaptation from Freckle Productions (the team behind Zog and the Flying Doctors and Stick Man) is back in Liverpool and promises to be bigger, brighter and more roar-some than ever before! With lively songs from Joe Stilgoe and directed by Emma Kilbey, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved Zog is a magical production for all ages.
