Tough Old Bird by Nana Funk

From Nana Funk, the great-great-grandmother of good times, comes a heartfelt musical journey of exploration, inspired by real life events and stories.

Tough Old Bird explores how women are viewed in society as they have the absolute gall to get older! Have you ever noticed those adverts promising to ‘defy the effects of aging’? Ooh Nana hates them. What about when we get old? Where’s the instruction manual? Who deems what is ‘acceptable behaviour’? What happens when your voice isn’t listened to, or you become slowly invisible?

Join Nana as she asks the big questions! Aging well doesn’t mean behaving yourself.

Park Life

Why is Tag Team Writing like Tag Team Wrestling? Because they both have to keep a grip on things.

This was the fighting challenge for nine writers in a Make it Write drama workshop who baton-changed their words to give an uplifting look at a park through the seasons and the people who go there.

The result is a sideways view of life, love, loss and longing which you can see as a play at The Casa Theatre Bar, Hope Street, Liverpool, on October 4 and 5. It is part of the Liverpool Fringe Festival.

As well as the plants growing in all their glory we see the vandals who have blossomed into responsible parents.

What stories of romance and dreams could that battered old park bench tell if it could talk?

Make it Write Productions is a Liverpool-based group dedicated to fostering new writing throughout the North West. As well as stage shows and workshops Make it Write produces sound and video recordings.

“The show was originally staged in May and featured some of our best writers and we have brought everyone back as they are such a great team,” said producer Sharon Colpman.

Kitty: Queen of the Washhouse

The piece is told by Kitty’s statue, come to life as a friendly ghost. It is a highly animated portrayal and physical performance, as Kitty relays her fascinating ‘against all odds’ story of how she has become the only female statue in St George’s Hall.

The audiences will leave with Kitty’s “I can” philosophy. They might also accept her challenge to help get more female statues in St George’s Hall and gardens!

History lovers, local, national and international, feminists, those from Irish backgrounds and Liverpudlians will all have a natural connection with this theatre piece.

Withnail and I

London, 1969. Fed up with damp, cold, piles of washing-up, mad drug dealers and psychotic Irishmen, a pair of substance-abusing, perpetually out-of-work actors decide to leave their squalid Camden flat for an idyllic holiday in the countryside.

But when Withnail and Marwood arrive in Cornwall, it doesn’t seem much better than London – and things are not helped by the arrival of Withnail’s Uncle Monty.

Featuring organ prelude from resident organist Dave Nicholas.

In the 35 years since its release, Withnail and I has become ‘one of Britain’s biggest cult films’ (BBC). It features a debut from Richard E Grant, who will be coming to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in October to share stories of his life and career.

Filla Crack’s Halloween Drag Cab...

This Hallows Eve, Filla Crack will be paying tribute to the queens of Halloween, with her very own version of The Sanderson Sisters: “The Sefton Sisters” a bunch of local scouse drag queens putting together a fabulous dragtastic show to help celebrate the spooky season.

Downstairs at The Everyman is a safe, fully accessible space for all to enjoy the art of gender-bending performance in a traditional cabaret style venue (Filla likes to call her “cove”). Safely tucked away with it’s own bar and food available on the night, it’s a perfect way to “Hallowscream.”

Put on your best outfit and join them for an evening of laughter, sparkle and witches as Filla and her gang bring the house down!!! It’s time to order your biodegradable glitter, WhatsApp the group and book now before it sells out.

Reel Tours Presents: The Fog

Join Reel Tours and the Playhouse for a one-off Halloween special screening of the 80’s cult classic John Carpenter’s, The Fog.

A weather-beaten old fisherman tells an ancient tale of betrayal and death to fascinated children as they huddle together by their campfire. As a piece of driftwood in a child’s hands glows with spectral light an eerie fog envelops the bay and from it’s midst emerge dripping demonic victims of a century old shipwreck… seeking revenge.

With a horror history intro from Reel Tours pre film and a quiz to follow, this screening of The Fog will set a truly horrific tone to your Halloween celebrations. Prizes will be awarded for the best Halloween costume on the night!
