Raymond Gubbay Limited is pleased to announce that Varna International Ballet and Orchestra will return to UK after a hugely successful debut in 2023. This season they will bring much-loved classical ballets The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty coming to Liverpool Empire 09 -11 January 2024.
British dancer Luc Burns will perform alongside Italy’s Mara Salvaggio, Martina Prefetto, Giovanni Pompei, Agnese Di Dio Masa, Andrea Conforti, Mirko Andreutti, Giacomo Ammazzini and Vittorio Scolé, France’s Pauline Clémence Faget, Spain’s Mónica Alegre and Yael Delgado, and Brazil’s Wellson Felipio.
The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty will be classical versions of the original, including sumptuous costumes and familiar choreography and settings.
Swan Lake will be a recreation of Tchaikovsky’s original production, that was created for the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877. Modern audiences are more familiar with the 1895 version that included musical and chorographical changes to the original by Marius Petipa and Riccardo Drigo, which was presented at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1895, two years after Tchaikovsky’s death. The producers of Varna International Ballet went back into the archives in order to return to the original score, orchestration and libretto, above all to preserve the original meanings that were at the bottom of the musical dramaturgy of the ballet.
A highly anticipated dance production featuring the music of Nina Simone is heading to Liverpool this March.
What songs may do…is the first full-evening production by award-winning choreographer, former National Dance Company Wales dancer and Rendez-Vous dance artistic director: Mathieu Geffré.
Revealed by Nina Simone’s songs, this duet exposes with an unapologetic passion the fractured relationship of a once romantic couple as they delve into their past in an attempt to rebuild their future together.
Through Simone’s music, this dance piece shines a light on our deep rooted connection to memories through music and proposes the power of what songs may do. Poetic, passionate, physical and emotional, What songs may do… is an inclusive dance piece that celebrates love in all its diversity.

The humorous dance performance Woman Hood explores different female worlds in four parts.
It shows extraordinary and idiosyncratic female personalities who possess different types of power, who are “different” or simply step out of line.
With her new creation, contemporary dancer Ursula Graber continues her investigation into female worlds and feminism. What does it mean to be a woman today? How should a woman be? How does she want to be? Is vulnerability the new strength? What distinguishes a sisterhood, a supportive network of women?
Inspired by Sara Ahmed’s book “Feminist Living!”(2017), the performance in the microcosm stage starts the attempt to create a feminist foundation based on strong female figures in a society that is still dominated by patriarchy. A magical stage world, with contemporary dance, elaborate costumes and rousing music.
La Feria Latin American Festival presents an innovative and colourful celebration of Latin American music, featuring Camila y Silvio and La Doctrina.
Camila y Silvio is a Chilean contemporary folklore group founded by the musician Silvio Rozzi and the popular/folk music singer Camila Soria. Their music is deeply rooted to Latin American folk with a breezy and young interpretation of the traditional music genres of the Andean regions of South America.
The experience of listening to the band is one where the landscapes and the human experiences connect with the emotion of the singing, emerging in the intimate knowledge of life and the nostalgic joy of the Andean music.

La Doctrina is an exciting trio from Chile. Led by award winning composer Alonso Farias Zamora, their unique sound mixes South American bass lines with blues and funk rhythms, with a sprinkling of Cumbia, Soul and Latin Jazz in an explosive, passionate performance that always connects with any audience.
Although most of their lyrics are in Spanish, the band has always been able to spread their political message whilst touring UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Brazil, Peru and Chile.
