Sports Journalist / Author Simon Hughe...

They are delighted to welcome Simon Hughes who joins Waterstones to discuss his latest book “Chasing Salah” – the definitive biography of Liverpool legend and the most famous Egyptian footballer in the history of the sport, Mohamed Salah.

Salah’s achievements are, in many ways, unparalleled. A Champions League and Premier League winner, he is a two-time African Footballer of the Year who straddles two worlds. The first is the continent he comes from, as well as the Middle East. The second is Europe, where he has broken all sorts of goalscoring records at Liverpool, helping him to become the most identifiable Muslim player on the planet.

And yet, despite his consistent success on the pitch, record-breaking, team victories and popular persona, little is known about the Liverpool forward, or the competing forces around him. That is, until now.

Award-winning football journalist and author Simon Hughes expertly pieces together a fascinating portrait of this enigmatic football icon. From his relationships with his teammates to what motivates him; from how the events of the past decade in Egypt have impacted his life, to what’s next in his career – Chasing Salah reveals all.

Simon will be in conversation with fellow Liverpool journalist Brian Reade. Their discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and a book signing.

Memory walk

Memory walks are dementia-friendly guided visits in the Museum of Liverpool, which connect people through conversations about Liverpool’s past.

On a memory walk you can explore Liverpool icons like the Overhead Railway, known as the dockers’ umbrella, Blackie the rocking horse, or the Colomendy totem pole. Bring a friend or loved one to share memories with, and create some new ones together.

Each walk is led by a friendly member of their dementia awareness trained team, who will use the displays within the Museum of Liverpool to start conversations and help you reminisce about life in the city.

Memory walks last about one hour and can accommodate up to 20 people. For groups larger than 4 people please email learning@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk to book a private date with our team.

The Museum of Liverpool is fully accessible and they welcome visitors who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids to join their memory walks. Please visit our access page for further information to help prepare for your visit.

Tickets are free and need to be booked in advance. Please let them know if you have booked but can no longer attend so that someone else can have your ticket.

The times of memory walks varies as follows:

  • 24 November at 11am
  • 26 January at 2pm
  • 23 February at 11am
  • 26 April at 2pm

All Saints Day Soundbath

The BID is hosting a Soundbath evening for any businesses in the BID for a soothing All Saints Day experience.

Not sure what a Soundbath is? A Soundbath is a meditative experience where guests are invited to relax and enjoy the sounds around them. For this event, Level10 Choir will surround the participants with a wash of choral sound.

The Soundbath will take place at Liverpool Parish Church.

Guests are invited to sit or lie on the floor of the room. We’ll try to make that as comfortable as possible, but participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats and blankets.

Spaces are limited but we encourage businesses to send staff for a meditative and relaxing experience.

Arrival will be from 5:30pm with the experience taking place from 5:45pm – 6:45pm

Summer Sound Bath for Recalibration

August is the fruition of summer, of growth, fertility and life force. It is a time of celebration, reaping what you have sown, enjoying the good things in life, and basking in the gifts and glow of summer.

With all this brightness, this sun, shining on us and our lives, some things can be brought to the light that we may have kept in the dark, some things that make it feel harder to bask in the glow of summer. Maybe the sun is whispering to us out of our office window making us relive daydreams of dream jobs, maybe the warm days are beckoning us to the beach, to water, to nature because we feel disconnected, maybe we miss friends/loved ones and long to gather with them in the glow of a slowly setting summer sun..

Whatever all of this extra light is illuminating for you, this Sound Bath for Recalibration is here to help you feel more connected to the warmth within you, to tap into those dark spots and massage out and knots, to tap into that firey energy of summer and reconnect with your own light and purpose.

This Sound bath will be designed to help you reconnect with your self and your vision for the rest of the summer season, to help you step towards centredness and to ease any emotional/physical tensions to reignite your passion and purpose,

Think of it as a massage for your soul!

I’ll be working with Venus Gong, Himalayan Singing Bowls, Crystal Bowls, Therapeutic Percussion and Voice to help you drop into an Altered State of Consciousness allowing you to relax, re-centre and reset.

I’ll be using a beautiful, heart opening Gong tuned to the frequency of Venus. It’s gentle tones evoke positive emotions such as joy, love, harmony, beauty and compassion and it allows us to spiritually surrender with grace, to explore our creativity and imagination and find things which bring us comfort and balance.

At a time when many are worried about security, Venusian energy reminds us of the wealth and abundance of the Universe that is all around us, of the magic of a great personal relationships and even more- the bliss of a great relationship with yourself . The sounds of the Venus gong are heart-opening and blissful, and sooth away concerns and worries, bringing balance, strength and renewal.

The session will begin with the sharing of some wonderful sustainably sourced Mugwort Tea to deepen your experience, tap into your creative energy, open your heart and activate your bliss. When used together the therapeutic sound and the mugwort tea work as one to ✨maximise the therapeutic effect and enhance your experience✨

More on Sound Therapy….

Sound Therapy is an ancient tradition that has history in cultures throughout the world. Sonic healing helps us to experience altered states of consciousness by shifting our brainwave state to lower frequencies that can impact the body, helping to promote deep relaxation; induce total relaxation, release emotional trauma, manage pain, sleep better and relieve stress and anxiety.

Experiencing therapeutic sound allows us to deeply listen to ourselves and receive the true healing that we need on a mind body and spirit level.

New Moon Sound Bath for Reconnection &...

Gather in candlelight to celebrate yourself and the Leo New Moon through sound, ritual, mindfulness + intention.

We are innately cyclical beings and observing and celebrating these internal cycles is a wonderful way to honour ourselves just as we are, and to feel into how we can tap into our most aligned selves going forward. Honouring nature’s cycles along with our own, is a powerful way to feel more rooted and grounded in our experience, more grateful, more present and more able to access the awe of the space we inhabit in the beautiful cosmic dance.

The new Moon is the perfect moment in the lunar cycle to rest, reflect, refresh, and look to the future. The moon is often seen as being incredibly connected to our emotional world and so during the new moon when that light is obscured we can lose our ability to see what we need to see. We need to build a relationship with this darkness, to embrace it, in order to move forward.

A new Moon is a gestation period. When we are in the darkness, there is a deep and felt sense of connection, an experience of two being one. It is the time when the physical and emotional body can rest and reset in the womb of one’s spirit. No separation exists during this phase.

Gathering at this moment allows us to work with the potent energy of the new moon to reflect on our recent experiences, release what no longer serves us and set powerful intentions for manifestation in our next phase. As the moon begins a new cycle, it is a perfect time to align your energy with your goals and focus on what you need to do in order to be living your most aligned life.

Coming together in circle allows us to connect with each other, and in turn ourselves, more deeply. The more we hold space for one another, the more we realize that the possibilities are endless; that success begets success; that we’re in this together.

Our August New Moon falls in fiery Leo – this is the time to allow yourself to be the centre of attention, to radiate your uniqueness, to tap into the ways you express yourself and supercharge them! This is a powerful time to tap into creativity- to use your enhanced magnetism to create whatever reality you desire!

In our Sound bath for Reconnection we will focus on your intentions and use the sounds of Himalayan Bowls, Crystal Bowls, Therapeutic Percussion and Voice to aid in removing any emotional blocks so you can access your flow with more ease

Through helping you to drop into a sound induced Altered State of Consciousness the healing sonic vibrations can help you process unresolved resistances, gain clarity and move through pain towards a more whole harmony…
