Let’s Get This Straight – ...

Comics Youth CIC, have published a guidebook called, ‘LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT- A GUIDE TO GOOD ALLYSHIP’- that is full of best practise, lived experiences and advice for professionals/practitioners/community leaders around the UK to support our LGBTQIA+ community more effectively.

The publication is expertly crafted by young experts from Comics Youth CIC, activists, founders, and researchers.

JOIN THEM ON TUESDAY 9TH MAY, 1PM-3PM @ THE BLOOM BUILDING 3 ABBEY CLOSE BIRKENHEAD CH41 5FQ.

There will be free welcome drinks, including supported networking, speeches from the makers and a Q+A segment. You will also be given a thank-you pack for joining which includes a FREE copy of ‘LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT: A GUIDE TO GOOD ALLYSHIP’.

Intersketch

Intersketch is a special six-week course by two professional artists Jen hardy and Merv Jones which is ideal for performers, writers or those who simply love being daft on stage.

The course starts and finishes with two full day sessions on Sunday May 7 and concluding on Sunday July 23. The whole course costs just £75.

The Dreaming – Open Mic

Saint Vespaluus and The Queen of Heartbreak are headlining this month’s Open Mic, but you can expect sets from several local poets too.

There are 10/15 Open Mic slots available, get there early to sign-up! Music for the evening comes from Lily Kehoe.

The event is held at The Reader Bar and Restaurant, Mount Pleasant, 7pm till 10pm.

The New Mersey Poets present spokenword, comedy and music live at The Excelsior.

The event is free entry and features Saint Vespaluus, Bob in the Dungarees and Becky Tavernor amongst a host of other performers.

World Poetry Slam Day – Writing ...

The event concludes the Spoken Word Poer Project that Writing on the Wall has been delivering for the past 2 years in collaboration with Eastside Educational Trust.

During a series of workshops with artists Toria Garbutt and Blue Saint, students from 6 schools across Liverpool have created and edited their own poems based around the theme ‘The Places I’ll Go.’ Following this, each school ran their own Poetry Slam event and the WINNERS of each School Slam have now been invited to perform at the REGIONAL EVENT at the Unity Theatre.

The event will be hosted by Performance poet, Dom Berry and performances will be judged by a panel of poetry experts including Mike Morris, Co-Director of WOW and local poet and activist, Amina Atiq.

The Squire of Knotty Ash and His Lady

The Liverpool Book Club, a brand new series of author events in iconic Liverpool venues, launches at Sefton Park Palm House on Wednesday, March 22nd.

The Squire of Knotty Ash and His Lady” is a special tribute event celebrating the life and talent of Sir Ken Dodd. Doddy’s biographer, Tony Nicholson, will be talking about the great man, and will be joined on stage by a special appearance of Anne, Lady Dodd.

Henry Normal plus special guest Pete R...

The Broken Spine Ltd are delighted to announce that on April 5th, national treasure Henry Normal, is taking a small detour from his national book tour to make a whistle-stop visit to Cooper’s Bar, Southport.

Henry is a poet, writer, TV and film producer, founder of the Manchester Poetry Festival (now the Manchester Literature Festival), and co-founder of the Nottingham Poetry Festival. Henry co-wrote and script edited The Mrs Merton Show and the spin-off series Mrs Merton and Malcolm. He also co-created and co-wrote the first series of The Royle Family and has collaborated extensively with Steve Coogan.

After setting up Baby Cow Productions Ltd (PhilomenaGavin and Stacey, and I’m Alan Partridge) in 1999, Henry Executive Produced all and script edited many of the shows during his tenure as MD.

Henry will be joined by his friend and special guest, poet Pete Ramskill.

Join them in this beautiful, intimate venue close to Southport’s revered Lord Street for a poetry reading, some belly laughs, and fabulous homemade pizza for this special, one-off gig presented by The Broken Spine Ltd.
