Bring a sense of wondrous charm to your festive season and join The Reader at The Mansion house for a Wreath Making Workshop with florist Jenny Wilson from In Blossom Flowers.

During this relaxed and peaceful two-hour workshop, Jenny will guide you step by step through the design and creation of a beautiful hanging wreath for you to take home or gift to a loved one. All materials will be provided and you will be able to adorn your wreath with a mix of thoughtfully chosen fresh and dried materials.

After the session, they will invite you into one of their Reading Rooms to enjoy a festive afternoon tea with homemade cakes prepared by Cuthberts.

Liverpool Makers’ Bazaar

Liverpool Makers Bazaar are hosting their fabulous seasonal market of all things handmade.

Join them for free access to nearly 40 stalls of unique items. The event is dog friendly and Mrs B’s delightful pop up tea room will be providing her usual sumptuous treats served on fine China.

But come early for first pick….doors open at 11am.

Christmas Floral Demonstration Charity...

Preparations for the annual Christmas Charity Evening are underway by The Booker Flowers and Gifts Team.

Following last year’s success, this year’s Christmas Floral Demonstration Charity Evening and Gift Bazaar is going to be on Wednesday 16th November 7pm – 9pm at Bridge Chapel, Heath Road to support Marie Curie (Woolton) and The Joshua Tree Children’s Cancer Charity.

Doors open at 6.30pm with the first Floral demonstration taking place at 7pm.

Join the Booker Flowers Team for an evening enjoying food and drinks while you watch professional Christmas floristry demonstrations and buy some beautiful handcrafted unique “not on the high street” Christmas gifts – perfect to get you in the Christmas spirit and a great night out with friends.  Plus all money raised will go to 2 very worthy charities – who will also be there on the night.

Tickets for the charity evening are £15 each and include entry into a prize draw to win the floral pieces made on the night plus a sandwich buffet and drink.

Last year’s event raised a fantastic £2,000 (which was split between Marie Curie and Strawberry Fields) The Charities were so amazed at what was achieved in just one night.  So it’s exciting to see what can be raised this year.

Over 25 stallholders, including baked goods, printmakers and illustrators, ceramics, locally produced spirits, and much more.

Beginners Sewing: Make Your Own Kimono...

This beginners course will take you step by step through the basics of sewing. You will be taught over 3 workshops (Thurs evenings).

Would you like to learn a new skill for the new year? Dream of being able to make your own clothes? Or do you have an old sewing machine lying around that you want to use?

Make your own Kimono Style Robe

This is an introduction to sewing course which takes place over three weeks (on Thursday evenings).

Small class size (3 people) to make sure everyone gets plenty of support

You can bring your own machine or use one of theirs

Take the free pattern home after the course.

Skills you will gain:

– Fabric knowledge

– Sewing machine operation and threading

– Cutting fabric from a pattern

– Overlocker operation

– Making French seams

– Making roulard loops and tie belt

– Facing and interfacing

– Marking out even hems

– Make and sew even patch pockets

Course Content:

In week 1 you will be given a pattern to start cutting out your kimono using either your own material or fabric provided by the tutor. If bringing your own you will need 2.5 meters of woven cotton or linen fabric that is 140cm wide.

You will make copy of your pattern that you can keep.

The tutor, Anita will help you to set up your machine showing you all the parts of the sewing machine and giving a full explanation of how to thread it and load the bobbin.

You will learn about stitch length/width, thread tension and look at any issues you have with your machine (if you have brought your own). If Anita can’t fix it , she will point you in the direction of someone who can. You will receive continued support in threading and troubleshooting your machine throughout the course as it can be difficult at first.

You will practice stiches on the machine and learn how to reverse stitch and turn corners. You will try out stitching of different lengths and the zig zag stitches.

Next, with ample support and supervision, you will start pinning and sewing your kimono pieces together.

You will be given instruction on how to use the overlocker and be given the opportunity to practice before using it to give your seams a professional neat finish.

Over the following 2 weeks you will sew your kimono up to the finished garment which will give you plenty of practice in using your sewing machine and gaining confidence.

The class is small with a maximum of 3 people so you will receive lots of help.

And last but not least – you will try on your gorgeous new Kimono Robe and give yourself a massive pat on the back!!!

Beginners Sewing: Shorts or Pants

This beginners course will take you step by step through the very basics of sewing. You will be taught over 3 workshops (Weds evenings).

You will be taught over the space of 6 hours how to make your own casual men’s shorts or women’s flared pants along with tricks and professional techniques to ensure the perfect finish to your garment. The course is spread over three weeks.

In week 1: You will be given a pattern to start cutting out your trousers using either your own material or alternatively you can use fabric provided by the tutor, Anita.

If bringing your own you will need 2.5 meters of woven cotton or linen fabric that is 140cm wide.

You will have the opportunity to alter the width of the trousers so they can be wide palazzo or straighter, according to your style. and you’ll make copy of your pattern that you can keep.

The tutor, Anita will help you to set up your machine showing you all the parts of the sewing machine and giving a full explanation of how to thread it and load the bobbin.

You will learn about stitch length/width, thread tension and look at any issues you have with your machine (if you have brought your own). If Anita can’t fix it , she will point you in the direction of someone who can. This beginner course is a brilliant start for anyone new to sewing. If you have a machine you would like to use please bring it with you to all three classes. There are sewing machines available to use at no extra cost if needed.

The number of people on each course is limited to ensure a friendly and thorough teaching experience. Complimentary tea and coffee and biscuits will be available each class and there will be handouts covering some of the information discussed in class to refer to after you have finished the course.

Introduction to Tie Dye

Get messy, have fun & create a unique item of clothing to take home!

An introduction to tie dye is a perfect class for everyone, whether you’ve done it before or you’re a complete beginner.

Bethan will walk you through the basics of tie die including:

– how to fold your material to create different patterns

– how to tie your material up

– dye application

– instruction on how to look after your reworked garment.

– instruction on how to cut and plait your t-shirt

Within this class you will be provided with a plain white cotton t-shirt to dye to your preferred style (we can provide size XS to XXXL).

Before dying, Bethan will show you how to rework your t-shirt using plaits, cuts and slits.

You also have the option to bring along your own item to be creative with .

If you do decide to bring your own item please ensure it is light in colour and made from natural fibres such as cotton, rayon, linen, lyocell, silk or denim.

Protective equipment will be provided including an apron and gloves, however the dye can be messy so please don’t wear your best clothes.

Pun Pots at Summer Arkade

Rachel from the Quirky Design Company will be at Make North Docks for the Summer Arkade this August, running her popular “Pun Pots” workshop!

Learn how to use fun and bold colours to create something unique for your home!

As well as using bold colours, you will also be using fun stencils and vinyl’s to create some eye catching designs and funny puns.

All materials will be provided, just bring yourself!

Two Day Weaving workshops

Learn everything you need to know about warping, stitching, weaving and finishing on this two day rigid heddle loom weaving workshop in Liverpool

In this workshop you’ll learn:

*how to warp your rigid heddle loom

*how to weave with neat edges

*how to sew a hem stitched edge to give your work a beautiful finish

*how to weave with pick up sticks

*finishing techniques

Cathy and Jessamy from LazyKate Textiles will ask your colour choices and dye gorgeous yarns for you to weave with over the two days. They want you to have a real treat.

This workshop gives the time and space to take your time with your weaving, giving you the opportunity to ask those questions and build your confidence.

You can use your own loom or one of theirs, whichever you would prefer.
