Keith James: The Songs of Nick Drake

A haunting and immaculately crafted concert.

Nick Drake is the most revered and loved of all this country’s acoustic Singer-Songwriters. He has given us timeless songs that shed all the tears of life within their fragile yet perfect lines. He recorded three cherished albums between 1969 and 1972 but was almost entirely unknown in his day. After his tragic death in 1974 aged only 26 his music almost disappeared into obscurity. Now, thanks to a massive resurgence of interest and a worldwide re-evaluation of his unique music, Nick Drake has become a national treasure.

Several meticulously compiled biographies look at every aspect of Nick’s life and music, throwing light on many shadowy corners of mystery and supposition.

Two decades have now passed since Singer/Guitarist Keith James first astonished the whole country with his stunningly beautiful series of concerts. He was the first artist ever to bring these intriguing songs to Theatres and Arts Venues across the UK, and remains to this day, the foremost artist devoted to performing Nick’s music in its pure live acoustic form. Over the past 20 years, Keith has performed over 1,000 highly acclaimed concerts in venues across the UK, Ireland, Holland, France, Italy and Spain including all of Nick’s Schools and Colleges – even Glastonbury Festival.

Save QUARRY w/ STONE, Spinn, Monks, Wo...

A couple of weeks back STONE went on a UK tour with an ethos of supporting independent venues in a live music industry that is becoming increasingly difficult to operate in.

They arrived home to find a venue here in a similar circumstance. QUARRY is a bar and venue in the industrial part of Liverpool which has been host to a lot of good events, from gigs to raves to film nights since 2019 – they even have an early live session recorded there back in 2020.

Currently, their location is being closed down but the team is raising funds to find a new space for a new venue.

Anyone from Liverpool knows the wonderful venues we’ve lost over the years, from the Kazimier, to Sound Basement and Studio 2. Conversations about Liverpool usually bring up this loss of spaces and how antithetical that feels as a city with such a musical heritage. So when STONE saw the team at QUARRY are raising money they thought they could help.

On Thursday 12 December, they are putting on a night of music with all profits from tickets and merch sales to go to the team in rebuilding a new venue. Big thanks to the acts on their line-up for joining them and supporting this cause – two of their contemporaries who have been a part of Liverpool music along with them.
