The Cavern Club presents The Beatles v...

Attention all Beatles and Rolling Stones fans! Prepare yourselves for an electrifying experience and celebrate the essence of Rock n Roll.

Join them for a journey through the timeless hits of these two iconic bands as we settle the age-old debate: who truly reigns supreme in the world of music? Will Brown Sugar or Honky Tonk Woman be up to your Satisfaction or will She Loves You and I Wanna Hold Your Hand make you Twist and Shout?!

Representing the four lads from Liverpool are the Cavern Club’s very own, The Cavern Club Beatles, the only band officially endorsed by the legendary venue. Collectively this band has played on London’s West End, New York’s Broadway, toured the world extensively, as well as performing their sell-out show at the Cavern Club fifty two weeks of the year.

Representing The Rolling Stones, are Rocks Off from Sweden, the world’s finest tribute to The Rolling Stones. The band are no strangers to Liverpool and have been regular headliners at Liverpool’s Mathew Street Festival and have been wowing audiences at International Beatleweek Festival for over 20 years.

The night wouldn’t be complete without a special guest tribute to the Rock n Roll Pioneer, Little Richard. Buzz D’Angelo will be bringing his flamboyancy to the stage in tribute to the man who influenced the music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Folk on the Coast

The team are delighted to announce the first wave of artists who’ll be taking to the stage for their inaugural event. They represent the very best in folk and are a vibrant and eclectic mix of artists including the best of traditional folk to tomorrow’s rising stars.

Enjoy stunning performances from their announced headliners including Martin Carthy, Martin Simpson, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican, Martyn Joseph, Jackie Oates & John Spiers. We can also announce performances from Mikey Kenny, Jon Wilks, Gilmore & Roberts, Joe Topping, James Delarre & Saul Rose and Jack Rutter with many more to be announced. Keep checking their website!

Nick Harper

Recorded in Abbey Road Studio 2 on Earth Day 2024, Earth Day Blue is the fourteenth release from Nick Harper, the wildly talented and much-loved singer-songwriter.

Earth Day Blue is peppered with acoustic ear-worms written with a Studio 2 Beatles-esque approach of short, immediate songs, but with the added brio of a group of studio attendees sometimes driven to sing along to Nick’s guitar and voice, adding a party atmosphere to the day. Along the way, Nick displays all his (un)usual talents, from his trademark virtuoso string-bending guitar playing, to his penchant for prose poems when describing the scene at Abbey Road in the 70s in ‘The Lady in the Fur Coat.’

The recording captures the magic of a live performance in a controlled environment, though, in a space such as this, dripping with portent and legacy, there is a tangible added depth of poignancy and emotion underlying the album.

For Nick Harper fans and for new fans alike, it is all here in unadorned beauty, an album that witnesses a solo artist without dilution or compromise, nor studio trickery or production prop, having a great day performing in one of the most hallowed rooms on the planet.

The Real Thing

The Real Thing are back! Original vocalists Chris Amoo and Dave Smith go on tour with their first new album of original material in 44 years, A Brand New Day.

The Real Thing enjoyed success in both the 1970s and 1980s with three Top 10 singles. The number one hit ‘You To Me Are Everything’, ‘Can’t Get By Without You’, ‘Can You Feel The Force ‘ and many more are still featured daily on all the major UK radio stations.

They also had a hit movie Everything which played nationally in cinemas and was also aired on TV. This was followed by their Greatest Hits Album which made the official National Album Charts and reached number two in the Amazon download charts.

The Real Thing are undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.

Rimrose Valley Friends and the Save Rimrose Valley campaign cordially invite you to join them on Sunday 28th July for another FREE event, as they meet up on Rimrose Valley Country Park, for our next big gathering, with a difference!

Together, they will recreate the 1978 Kate Bush contemporary dance masterpiece, “Wuthering Heights”.

OK… what this ACTUALLY means is that they’re holding Liverpool’s BIGGEST Wuthering Heights Day EVER and YOU’RE invited!

So… what’s it all about?!!

Firstly, no, they haven’t lost the plot (honest!).

This weekend marks Kate Bush’s birthday and these mass gathering events have been popping up in big, open spaces around the globe in recent years, so what better place to host Liverpool than amazing Rimrose Valley!

Check out the photo and video on this page to get a feel for it.

More recently, younger fans have been introduced to Kate Bush after “Running up that Hill” featured in Stranger Things, so they’ll be playing that on the day too and hope this event appeals to everyone!

There will be music, there will be fun, there will be toilets… and something for all the family, so save the date, source your red frock (their alternative outfit if you’re not feeling brave enough, gents!) and check out the FAQs that will follow so you’re as ready as you can be!

Get practicing the routine and get ready to GET INVOLVED!

This event is being brought to you by Rimrose Valley Friends. They’re a small charity which formed to protect, enhance and promote Rimrose Valley Country Park to surrounding communities and beyond, so Liverpool, if you’ve not visited us yet, this is YOUR chance to see it for the first time.

Since 2017 they have been running a campaign to save this beautiful green space from destruction. By supporting events like this one, you’ll be helping raise awareness of their fight and doing your bit to help secure its long term future.

Klof Presents: Brown Wimpenny

On’t Summer Solstice Klof have decided to set up shop in Liverpool’s picturesque Nordic Church and are very pleased to be bringing Northern Trad songsters Brown Wimpenny along with them for their first Liverpool show.

The band are young singers of old songs and new dancers of old jigs, combining traditional folk with booming harmonies, experimental noise and a good ol’ bit of drone.

Tickets are £10, there will be food (as always), some drinks and possibly some cake and coffee?

Beyond the Beat

Sixteen unseen photographs of musicians from Liverpool’s bustling 1960s Merseybeat era will go on display this June, as Beyond the Beat (29 June to 3 November) at Museum of Liverpool explores the music scene in Liverpool’s bustling nightclubs in the period immediately after the Beatles.

The display will showcase some of the bands that clamoured to play Liverpool’s music scene in the wake of The Beatles monumental fame, through a series of never-before-seen photographs of Liverpool’s Merseybeat scene.

At the heart of the display are international artists who hoped to play in Liverpool and local bands with dreams of following in the Fab Four’s footsteps – including photographs of two currently unidentified bands that curators are keen to track down.

Artists from rock and blues backgrounds including The Yardbirds, The Hollies, John Lee Hooker and Spencer Davis Group, feature in the display alongside local artists that performed during this important era.

Following the stratospheric success of The Beatles and Liverpool’s Merseybeat sound, musicians would flock to play the clubs of Mathew Street, including some of history’s most influential American blues artists.

Front and centre were an army of photographers, including Bill Connell and Les Chadwick from Liverpool studio Peter Kaye Photography. The company documented the performances and crowds that danced to the beat of the clubs during the swinging 60s.

Museum of Liverpool purchased 912 negative strips from Peter Kaye Photography with photographs documenting many different elements of Liverpool life.

From this selection of negatives, 16 never-before-seen images were chosen to go on display for the first time in Museum of Liverpool’s Skylight Gallery for Beyond the Beat. With hundreds more archived in the museum’s collections.

Claire Hunter, assistant curator at Museum of Liverpool, said: “The Beatles may have dominated Liverpool’s music scene in the 1960s, but following their departure from the stages of Mathew Street, hundreds of artists wanted a chance to walk in their footsteps.

“This small selection of photographs, taken from a huge archive by Peter Kaye Photography, captures the essence of the Merseybeat scene. The energy of the clubs, the enthusiasm of the crowds and the power of the musicians to captivate their audiences.

“Beyond the Beat looks past the Fab Four and at some of the local, national and international artists that made the city swing.”

Alongside well-known acts and local bands, two unknown Liverpool acts feature in the display and Museum of Liverpool curators are keen to find out more about both bands. The unknown bands are both thought to be local musicians from Liverpool, but not much more is known about either group.

Museum curators are asking people with information about either of the unknown bands on display to email beyondthebeat@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk.

Beyond the Beat is on display and free to visit in Museum of Liverpool’s Skylight Gallery from Saturday 29 June until Sunday 3 November 2024. For more information, please visit: www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/beyond-the-beat.
