Foley & Technical Sound Workshop

Join FACT for an interactive workshop that delves into the fascinating world of audio crafting through recording and post-production hosted by LMF and led by Dr Eddie Dobson (Post Sound Specialist and Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield).

Learn about the essential roles and the critical importance of sound in creating compelling films and TV shows. Over 2 hours, they’ll explore sound design and introduce you to the art of Foley—where everyday objects become the source of cinematic magic.

This hands-on session will allow you to use professional recording equipment to experiment with creating sound effects. By the end, you’ll have a practical understanding of how sound can support narratives, using post-production software to bring it all together. LMF will also take the sound files and upload them online for the participants to download and play with at home.

Whether you’re a budding filmmaker, a sound enthusiast, or just curious about the behind-the-scenes magic of movies, this workshop is perfect for you!

Please note that this event is for those aged 18 and above.

Making It

What does ‘making it’ really mean?

Backstage in a Liverpool social club, actress and cabaret diva, Bev, eagerly awaits a career- changing call from her London agent. As she prepares for her last ever gig, Bev shares stories of her search for stardom and her fight for survival. We learn about the lecherous managers, holiday-camp and cruise-ship mafia, and how a meeting with a famous director could mean the end of her days as a travelling social-club singer and a chance to ‘make it’. But at what cost?

For anyone who’s ever wanted to look behind the club-lounge starcloth, this new comedy two-hander shines a spotlight on how a working-class wonder woman survives in the tricky world of showbusiness.

Making It! began as a homegrown one woman show in 2018 called Our Bev’s Christmas Cracker, winning a Liverpool Echo Theatre Award, and played to sellout crowds. This time, writing duo Stephen Fletcher and Cath Rice have developed the show further and are proud to present this exciting comedy two-hander, now also starring the brilliant Andrew Schofield.

“A lot of heart, soul and Merseyside wit, you’ll be glad you popped down to see Bev” Liverpool Echo

The Montagues

The Montagues take over Future Yard on Friday 1st November as they celebrate the release of their EP Verona Act 1.

Hailing from the shadows of yesteryears UK holiday destinations, soaked in the amusement arcades and fun fairs of the North Wales Coast. The Montagues are a five-piece alt. rock/indie band that deliver a layered, anthemic and melodic sound, derived from a childhood of rubbing shoulders with holiday makers and day trippers from all over Britain.

Guitar driven melodies, accompanied by punchy bass lines and hook induced vocals, they embody everything people love in a modern indie band.

Lyrically influenced by the stories of a working-class Welsh town, desperately trying to cling onto the highs of days gone by, you can’t help but get wrapped in the nostalgia of the relatable tales.

The Beggs Sisters

After an incredible reaction at Future Yard in November, The Beggs Sisters are back for 2024. For those of you who missed out on the amazing evening of beautiful harmonies and incredible stories, you can book your tickets now and get it in your diary.

Willow and Luna were encouraged from an early age to follow their own musical paths by their musician father Nick Beggs, who initially found fame in the 80s with the band Kajagoogoo. But together as a family trio, their music captures audiences leaving them speechless by beautiful harmonies and incredible original songs

Support acts are to be announced but they guarantee it will be a spectacular evening that promises soulful and heartfelt performances.

Billy Nomates

Future Yard are delighted to be welcoming the fabulous Billy Nomates to Birkenhead this Autumn for a one-off, intimate acoustic show hosted by Form Presents.

The show, Undergrowth, is a special set of the unseen and unheard – new arrangements, never performed B-sides, something different.

A beacon of brutal truth in an industry built on inconsequential bullshit, the Bristol-based singer-songwriter gives voice to the silenced, the disillusioned, the broken-hearted,and the burnt-out, assembling brilliantly biting dispatches from the fringes of a society mired in austerity, inequality and insularity. Or, as Tor Maries puts it with trademark bluntness, “There’s too much music in the world already, so everything I make has to count.”

Stone Foundation

Stone Foundation, the soulful collective hailing from the Midlands, delivers a potent blend of soul, funk, and jazz-infused rhythms that captivate audiences worldwide.

With a sound reminiscent of Motown classics and contemporary influences, their music transports listeners to a nostalgic yet modern sonic landscape, characterized by infectious grooves and heartfelt lyrics.

Formed in 2004, Stone Foundation has steadily built a reputation for their dynamic live performances and critically acclaimed studio albums. Led by founding members Neil Jones and Neil Sheasby, the band has garnered praise for their authentic songwriting and tight musicianship, drawing inspiration from their diverse musical influences.

With each release, Stone Foundation continues to evolve, embracing new sonic territories while staying true to their soulful roots, making their live shows an unmissable experience for music lovers of all persuasions.
