Spend an evening in the company of internationally renowned Palestinian composer and Oud player Saied Silbak, as he takes you on a journey through Palestinian folklore, past and present, in a mesmerising new performance.
This two-part concert, taking place within Liverpool Philharmonic’s Music Room, features Silbak’s solo compositions and his quintet ensemble with Palestinian singer Maha.
In a beautiful and diverse programme, Silbak pays homage to the Palestinian landscape and the country’s rich music history, journeying through folklore classics, the soundtracks of the 80s and 90s as well as contemporary pieces and sounds.
Spotlighting some of the most distinct regional artists such as Sabreen, Kamilya Jubran and Rim Banna, Silbak also presents his own unique and stellar compositions. Songs From Palestine will be an unforgettable journey through a rich musical culture, folklore and heritage.
About Saied Silbak:
Saied Silbak is a Palestinian composer and Oud player born in Shafaa`mr, a city located in the lower Galilee of occupied Palestine.
He began training in classical piano at the age of four, before moving onto the oud in his early teens in order to delve deep into the nuances at the base of Arabic music. Silbak went on to train at the Beit Almusica Conservatoire where he later taught, before studying Music and Psychology in Haifa and then completing his Masters at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
He has a unique understanding of different types of music, from Arabic, Turkish and Indian to classical Western styles. Silbak’s signature sound, created through his artful ability to fuse these styles together, has seen him perform around the world at festivals and concert series in the UK, Belgium, France, Palestine, Morocco, Argentina and beyond.
About Maha
Maha Khlifi is a Moroccan born national based in London. She has a passion for classical Arabic musicals/Operettas along with a keen focus on superior audience experiences.
Maha is an eclectic artist, able to perform in several languages including Arabic, English, French and Spanish. In 2012, she was one of three contestants selected from the UK to represent Arabs abroad in Arab Idol. She was also part of a reality TV/singing show in Morocco’s national TV, where she reached the semi-finals.
In March 2020, Maha made her west end debut in Umm Kulthum & the Golden Era the first Arabic musical in the UK which took place in the London palladium. The performances were in front of a sold out audience size of 2000+.
Maha released her debut single Le Monde Est Au Bout De Tes Pieds in 2017. The single was independently produced in Paris and was released worldwide on all digital music outlets. She is currently a lead singer in a professional choir – part of the Arabic Music Academy UK, specialised in classical Arabic music.
