Artists – Book Art Exhibition: Art, Science and Creativity, closes 27 May ’24

Creativity is central to exploration in both art and science. And as we wonder, and attempt to understand our worlds and the universe – and hence ourselves and humanity – categories can, and perhaps should, become blurred. As the great science-fiction writer Arthur C Clarke said: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”.

Artists are invited to bring their own creativity and imaginations to consider this broad theme. They are keen to receive proposals which involve the creation of new book art. In addition, in recognition of LBA’s 10 years of exhibiting, we are also happy to receive submissions of already created artist’s books, including relevant works shown by LBA in previous years.

Liverpool Book Art’s long-standing collaboration with Liverpool Central Library continues in 2024. The exhibition will open there on 3rd September in the magnificent Hornby room, and run until the end of October.

Event

The formal application process is now open on http://www.curatorspace.com/ which includes full details of how to apply, selection dates, and timetable for delivery. The Call closes on 27th May 2024. NB This is the deadline for proposals, not completed works!

Organisations / Clubs – New Movement Fund, Sport England, opens 1 May ’24

Sport England have transformed their funding application process to make it easier for sports clubs and other organisations who help people to take part in physical activity apply for money.

Their new Movement Fund, which has been launched, simplifies funding applications and will help those with the greatest need secure investment to support people to live active, healthy, lives.

The fund, which is worth £160 million over the next four years, replaces their existing Small Grants Programme and Active Together fund, and will offer crowdfunding pledges, grants and resources to provide physical activity opportunities that can help tackle long-lasting inequalities.

As latest Active Lives figures show, there’s still a significant activity gap between people based on where they live, how affluent they are, their sex, ethnic background or whether they have a disability or long-term health condition. The Movement Fund aims to help close these gaps and will especially welcome applications that focus on doing so.

The launch coincides with the introduction of their new Movement Hub pilot – which will make it far easier to find existing tools and resources.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the delivery of our strategy,” said Tim Hollingsworth, our chief executive.

“In our implementation plan we committed to simplifying access to our open funding, with a single point of entry for anyone wanting to be a part of the movement – today we make good on that commitment.

“We know that choosing the best fund to apply for can be confusing, which is why we’ve worked hard to create a single application form that allows us to do the hard work and best assess your suitability.

“But while the method of application may have changed, our intention to unashamedly prioritise funding for people and communities who need it most, has not.

“Whether it’s a crowdfunding pledge or a grant, the Movement Fund is here to help our mission to tackle deep-rooted inequalities and unlock the advantages of sport and physical activity for everyone, to become a reality.”

Theirr Movement Fund is aimed at community groups, local clubs and grassroots organisations that are at the heart of delivering physical activity opportunities that boost people’s health and wellbeing.

And with investments of between £300 and £15,000 on offer if your project aligns with our priorities, they can fund a broad range of costs and items.

The fund comes on the back of the commitments made in the 2022-25 implementation plan of our Uniting the Movement strategy.

General eligibility criteria for the Movement Fund include:

  • An organisation working with people living in England
  • An organisation being not-for-profit
  • An organisation not being based on investment in equipment or facilities for football-only projects (these organisations should instead apply to the Football Foundation)

Further criteria apply to the fund and they’ve developed a brand new set of guidance to help people in the application process.

To give an idea of what they’d like to see, alongside the fund’s objectives and priorities, they’ve developed four ambitions of what they’re looking for in an application.

They are:

  • encouraging positive experiences of sport and physical activity
  • involving the community in planning and delivery
  • prioritising environmental sustainability
  • a good use of public money.

Paid artist call out to design Taylor Swift / Music Legends themed Tickle the Ivories Pianos, closes 13 May ’24

Liverpool ONE is running its much-loved piano festival, Tickle the Ivories, this summer and they’re inviting artists once again to design one of 7 pianos which will take pride of place and be played in prominent locations on the estate.

This year’s theme is Music Legends, including a special piano inspired by Taylor Swift.

Global superstar Taylor Swift is bringing her Eras Tour to Anfield Stadium in June, shortly followed by Pink’s Summer Carnival.

They’ll have Tom Jones and Status Quo in Bootle, Girls Aloud at the Arena, and International Beatle Week taking over venues around the Cavern Quarter. Not to mention a celebration of the legendary Mathew Street Festival at Pier Head in August.

It’s 50 years since Abba won Eurovision, the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night, and not that long ago Grammy Award Winner, Diana Krall, tickled these very ivories while she was in the city with Elvis Costello.

They celebrate many more high-profile musicians from Liverpool or who have taken to the stage here over the years including Cilla Black, The Zutons, Elton John, Take That, and The Rolling Stones to name but a few.

Now is your chance to create a piano design inspired by or dedicated to your favourite music legend with links to Liverpool.

They’re looking for:

– A piano designed to celebrate Taylor Swift’s performances in the city
– 6 other pianos dedicated to Music Legends.

You can submit one or multiple designs for different musicians and we will select 7 different musicians from all the submissions, including one for Taylor Swift.

Proposed fee – £550 per piano.

Please submit initial proposal by – 9am on Monday 13 May 2024.
