Disabled/Neurodiverse participants – Shielded in the Community, closes 17 July

Event

Shielded In The Community is a disabled-led project run in partnership with DaDa Fest and funded by Liverpool City Council.

Mandy Redvers-Rowe is a disabled writer based in Liverpool. Working with producer Harriet Warnock and Assistant Producer Robyn Bowyer. Together they’re delivering this project with a wonderful team of disabled and neurodiverse artists.

All of them had to shield in 2020 and 2021 but, although for many the restrictions have now been lifted, there are still a significant number of people who have to continue to shield.

They are asking Disabled and/or neurodiverse people who live in the north-west of England to take part in this project by responding artistically to their shielding experience – whatever their current shielding status.

To take part online simply watch one or more of the short videos created by the artists working on the project and they will help you get started.

Your response can take any format you like.

Responses should be emailed to shieldedinfo@gmail.com

Artists – Alchemy, closes 24 June

In 2023, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) will be celebrating its 125 Anniversary.  The work of LSTM has saved millions of lives, kickstarted extraordinary medical breakthroughs, democratised care across the globe and won a Nobel Prize.

The city of Liverpool is proud to be the home to LSTM – a city of music, storytelling and culture of which scientific discovery and creativity is at the heart.

To mark this extraordinary anniversary, but more importantly to look forward to what LSTM is hoping to achieve in the future, LSTM and Culture Liverpool have come together to create a unique arts and engagement project – Alchemy.

What is it?

Alchemy will bring together up to 10 extraordinary scientists with 10 leading artists to collaborate and create a series of new public realm commissions

These artworks will each tell the story of the research and development the scientists are working on and in doing so create exciting and accessible ways for audiences to engage in the work of LSTM.

Individually these works will be a deep dive into the art of science, yet collectively will tell a story about human ingenuity, creative curiosity and the joy of discovery.

Why are they doing it?

Alchemy will achieve a number of aims:

  • Celebrate and showcase the incredible work of the global scientific communities in LSTM in pushing forward the boundaries of medical science.
  • Create a platform for a wide and diverse range of artists
  • Be a key building block in the evolving narrative of Liverpool as a centre for culture and science
  • Create a unique and compelling ‘outdoor gallery’ which will move the audience around key parts of the city centre which relate to the subject
  • Create a launching off point to inspire a wide range of audiences to find out more
  • Create a ‘global gallery’ to engage audiences in LSTM partner organisations across the world

What are they looking for?

They are looking for artists who:

  • Have a history of creating high quality work for the public realm
  • Are willing to work in collaboration with a scientist from LSTM to co-create a concept
  • Have a history of producing work at scale and which is widely accessible

They have a particular interest in working with artists from;

Liverpool City Region

The countries in which LSTM operates – particularly in Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia including Malawi, Kenya, South Sudan and Zimbabwe.

They are looking for responses from; painters, film makers, graphic designers, games makers, sculptors, muralists and everything in between

LCVS Community Impact Fund, closes 24 June

The LCVS Community Impact Fund helps voluntary sector organisations and registered charities do even more to build stronger communities across Liverpool and Merseyside.

How does it work?

Eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to £3,000 for projects that meet one or more of our four main priority areas:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Income stability
  • Arts and Culture

Applications will be assessed on the impact that the project will have on the lives of those who benefit. We’re looking for projects that help make a change for those most in need.

What you can apply for

Health and Well Being

Projects that support healthy communities and encourage participation, especially (but not exclusively) with older people or those with health conditions.

Education

Projects that promote learning across the age groups, help people develop new skills and achieve their full potential.

Income Stability

As part of a commitment to reducing inequality and supporting financial stability and independence, successful applications will be those detailing initiatives specifically designed to tackle and reduce poverty.

Arts and Culture

We believe that Arts and Culture play an important role in terms of the social benefits for health, education and community cohesion and will be looking for projects that use arts and cultural activities that bring communities and generations together.

Important information

We only fund activities that can evidence the outcomes for those most in need in Liverpool and across Merseyside.

Based upon the high level of applications in previous years, we can only fund projects that align with our priority areas. Unfortunately, it’s for this reason that some good projects won’t be considered.

Please note: play schemes are not eligible as they are funded through other programmes.

Who can apply?

Organisations must be registered charities, or have charitable aims as part of their governing document, and must be able to register with the Charity Commission if their income exceeds £5,000.

In addition, organisations must have:

  • At least two cheque signatories
  • An adopted Constitution or set of rules and have a bank account in the name of the organisation or group
  • An appropriate child/vulnerable adult safeguarding policy and procedure where applicable and evidence that staff and volunteers are DBS checked.

Community Interest Companies

A Community Interest Company is a specific legal model registered with both Companies House and the CIC Regulator. Community Interest Companies can apply for funding, as long as they satisfy the following criteria:

  • The CIC must have at least 3 directors and be able to demonstrate how they have engaged with local people to identify the need.
  • The application is to fund charitable activity*

*Charitable activity means activity that supports a charitable purpose, as defined by the Charity Commission, and that meets the public benefit requirement as detailed in the Charities Act 2011.

Help sponsor Liverpool Care Leavers Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinners for Care Leavers was set up in 2013, with the aim of no Care Leaver (aged 16-25) being alone on Christmas Day.

The project is organised nationally, and run by local volunteers, supported by the Gold From The Stone Foundation, established by Lemn Sissay OBE, broadcaster and poet who grew up In Care. (www.goldfromthestone.org.uk)

Many of the young people are living alone and have little or no family support, so Christmas can be an isolating and distressing time. The aim is to create a day to remember and to make joyful memories of Xmas, which they may not have experienced before.

Everything – food, venue, entertainment, gifts – is of a high standard to reflect the value of the guests and they are asking you to open your heart to show these young people that the Liverpool community cares about them. They are also gifted a handmade quilt, made by a national group of volunteers – Quilts For Care Leavers – of a size big enough to wrap themselves in. A hug they can keep.

The event would not be possible without the support of local companies and individuals who provide valuable products and services to make an unforgettable Christmas.

Would you be willing to sponsor a (Venue/donation/food etc) to help with this year’s event? They would ensure your donation will be acknowledged in social media shoutouts and in their event programme.

If you wish to support them, they would be happy to discuss this and answer any questions you may have.

Please contact them on Liverpoolclcd@gmail.com or donate on: https://www.gofundme.com/f/liverpool-care-leavers-christmas-dinner
