March for the Arts September Social

March for the Arts are excited to invite you to their first IN-PERSON social and networking event!

It’s happening this September 21st at Liverpool Royal Court’s Courtyard Bar, 6pm-9pm. The vibe is casual, you can just turn up on the night, but it would be great if you could book a FREE place here.

–  this is so they can know how many people to expect and can work out appropriate social distancing measures. If you tell them who you are then they can also say ‘Hi’ and you’ll have a ready made contact for the evening! Networking quota tick!

Who’s it For?

Anyone who works in the arts. They’d like to see freelancers; independent makers; jobseekers; organisation staff; big cheeses; and everyone in between..

Although the venue is a theatre bar, they’re not just expecting theatre professionals – please come along if you consider yourself a creative or if you work in the arts industry.

Going alone? Let them know and they’ll make sure to chat to you when you arrive so you feel comfortable. There’s no obligation to stay if it’s not for you!

What to Expect

A space to chat and a bar to buy drinks and snacks.

Some mild organised fun in the background (partake if you want). A quiz perhaps.

A friendly March for the Arts team who might well introduce you to someone you’d like to work with in the future.

Optional name tags.

Where

Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre have a lovely bar and restaurant space called the Courtyard. They’ll be in the downstairs bar area, entry to the left of the main theatre foyer. Someone will be on the door to greet you. Find a map here.

When

Tuesday 21st September, 2021, 6-9pm.

Why?

It’s been a tough old time of seeing each other through Zoom – briefly –  in a panic – or not at all – and they’d simply like to get creatives in a room together to hang out. The landscape of Liverpool’s art scene has changed and this is a chance for new faces to meet old ones; for freelancers to meet organisations; and for friends to catch up.

Accessibility

If you have any access requirements you would like to discuss with them ahead of attending please contact info@marchforthearts.com and a member of their team will be happy to discuss this with you.

One more thing…

Do you have any information (beneficial to the Liverpool art scene or human beings in general) you need to spread?

If you’ve got an event, some recruitment to do or a cause to promote, please send them an email to talk about how you can connect best with people at this event.

About The Radical Reading Room Project

The Radical Reading Room (RRR) is a new collaborative project opening up local public spaces and providing a wealth of educational tools which will be a catalyst for creative thinkers and critical minds. Starting with boxes of new, boundary-pushing books, organisations from Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff, Peterborough and Newcastle/Gateshead have come together to create and generate spaces of positive dissent, backed up by the independent publisher Pluto Press and the Left Book Club.

There is access not just to books, but also the authors, who, through community-led conversations focussing on local issues, will share and build understanding on a variety of topics. Taking the lead from our communities, these topics include inequality, the environment, precarious employment, LGBTQ+ issues, structural racism and much more. As the project grows, RRR hope to expand to other areas of the UK, as well as develop new books by emerging radical voices.

At its core, the Radical Reading Room will help people find space to read, discuss and organise a better future. A better world is possible!

From bell hooks and Lola Olufemi, to Mario Mieli and Noam Chomsky, the books cover subjects of identity politics, theories of economics, environmentalism, arts production and more.

SOUND CHECK is a new training programme from Future Yard, designed to introduce young people to the skills they need to pursue careers in the live music industry. It is open to young people aged 14 to 15 from the local area. Applications now open.

From sound engineers to event managers, lighting designers to box office, this brand new programme will introduce you to the range of job roles and skills you need to make your career in the live music industry.

Based at Future Yard on Argyle Street in Birkenhead, Sound Check will support you to build your skills and knowledge in a real industry setting. A core programme of workshops runs alongside the opportunity to gain hands-on skills at live events.

The live music industry is worth £1.1bn each year to the UK economy and is exported around the world. It has been growing at 10% year on year and offers hugely fulfilling creative careers across a range of job roles.

Like many industries, COVID-19 provides a short term challenge. But, the live music industry remains a hugely significant industry locally, within the Liverpool City Region, and nationally. It will return, and Sound Check is an opportunity to develop the skills required to flourish within it as it does.

The free to access programme focuses on two areas; Technical Production and Live Music Event Management. These are then followed by an independent group project, in which you will utilise your new skills to deliver your own live event. There will also be occasional additional sessions outside of weekly sessions when working on live events (shadowing).

The programme is delivered by Future Yard’s hugely experienced team of tutors and boasts a broad range of guest speakers from across the industry.

After completing the programme, you will have the opportunity to join Future Yard’s ongoing training programme, further developing your skills and experience. There will also be a number of follow-on employment opportunities available, including through the Government’s Kickstart scheme.

The programme is accredited through Arts Award. In completing Sound Check, you will achieve a Bronze level qualification. Arts Award is a trusted, UCAS-accepted arts sector qualification accredited by Trinity College London and Arts Council England.

Sound Check is free to access and is open to all local people aged 14-15 with a passion for live music and an interest in making it their career. No previous experience is required.

14-15 year-olds
Sessions take place on Saturday mornings, 10am-12pm, within our new music centre at Future Yard. There will also be occasional additional sessions outside of these times when working on live events. The programme begins on 2nd October. The deadline for applications is 25th September.
