Arts Consultant – Canal and River Trust, closes 7 Jul

The Trust are seeking tenders that will demonstrate fully the design and implementation of artwork on the exterior of the two concrete turret structures exiting the new spillway. Community engagement within the town will be essential to the success of the tender.

These structures will be significant in size, and in close proximity to the Memorial Park. The surrounding area of the Park will be re-landscaped, with terracing around the open channel, a new play area and replanting. The project is expected to take two years, and is scheduled for completion in late-2024.

Our planning application accounted for incorporating artwork on the exterior of both turrets, as an enhancement to the public space. This is expected to involve template sand-blasting onto the turrets, after they have been cast in-situ – ie. they will be constructed first by their civil engineering contractor, Kier, then the artwork will be applied afterwards. This artwork will ultimately be one of the key features defining the new spillway upon completion.

It will be very important to involve the local community and key stakeholders (local Council etc.) in the decision making for the design of the artwork.

The Trust is a waterway and wellbeing charity, so the impression this public space will give to visitors is extremely important in ensuring people feel our waterways and reservoirs can be beneficial to their wellbeing. The Trust as client would hold the final decision for the chosen design, but anticipated to be primarily influenced by local community and stakeholder feedback.

Appointment is by competitive tender, and submissions will be assessed based on the design concept, cost, feasibility and community engagement. Please send an email to Toddbrook@canalrivertrust.org.uk for the full brief and details on how to apply.
