Future Movement Youth Facilitator – Rambert, closes 5 Jan

Job Title: Future Movement Youth Facilitator

Hours: 1 day per week. The post holder must be available to work on Tuesday evenings (no later than 8.30pm).

Salary: £130 per day

Employment term: Fixed term from 1st February until 10th March 2023

This role is freelance.

Days/HRS of work: 1 day per week which includes Tuesday evenings

Line Manager: Deputy Director of Audiences (Community)

Location: Toxteth Library, Windsor St, Liverpool, L8 1XF

JOB SUMMARY

Future Movement is Rambert’s free creative youth programme. It takes place in three locations over the UK: London, Greater Manchester, Mansfield – and now a pilot project in Liverpool.

Rambert and Liverpool City Council are bringing together a small cohort of brilliant and daring young people (16-21) to support them in creatively exploring what art and culture means to them, as well as developing new skills from guest artists and people who work in the creative industries. They will also make a short film about creativity with the London, Greater Manchester and Mansfield cohorts of Future Movement and share it in a celebration event in London.

We are looking for a Youth Facilitator to play the key role in this new project, planning and facilitating regular sessions, evaluating the project, and supporting the young people with their development.

The Youth Facilitator works in close collaboration with the Deputy Director of Audiences (Community) and Youth Producer to help shape the long-term creative vision of the project, which is driven by the young people themselves.

The Youth Facilitator will need to be available on Tuesday evenings for the sessions which are based in Toxteth Library.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

While it’s essential you’re enthusiastic about the work and cause of the organisation, we are not necessarily expecting you to have significant experience in the creative sector. You may bring experience of youth facilitation in a different field. We are just as keen to see strong transferable skills, as a track record in the arts.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning

  • To work closely with the London, Greater Manchester and Mansfield Future Movement Youth Facilitators and Deputy Director of Audiences (Community) on planning each session, incorporating regular feedback from the young people.
  • To capture and gather informal and formal feedback from the young people (verbal, feedback form and video).
  • Gather effective documentation (release forms).
  • Write minutes and actions from each session.
  • To share insights gleaned from this project so as to help contribute to the development of other community-focused work at Rambert.

Delivery

  • Deliver high quality sessions, integrating visiting artists about their careers in the creative sector.
  • Empower the young people so that they feel confident and supported to make their own decisions during the sessions.

Mentoring and wellbeing

  • Build positive relationships with the young people and support them between each session in a range of methods (using text, phone call, emails or Zoom), acting as a sounding board, sign posting, offering advice on the tasks they’ve been set between sessions.
  • Report any safeguarding issues with Rambert’s Safeguard Lead.

General responsibilities

  • To support Rambert to proactively develop and encourage environmentally sustainable practice.
  • To attend occasional staff meetings, training sessions and other events, which may sometimes take place outside normal working hours.
  • Any other duties considered reasonable by the company.
  • At all times to carry out duties and responsibilities with regard to Rambert’s policies and procedures, details of which are available from the Head of Human Resources and EDI.

This job description is a guide to the nature of the work required of this position.  It is neither wholly comprehensive nor restrictive and does not form part of the contract of employment.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Rambert comprises a team of highly skilled and committed people.  All staff members are expected to contribute to the company’s success and engage in the life of the company.

Essential requirements

  • Significant experience working with young people.
  • A working knowledge of the Liverpool area and the needs/interests of local young people.
  • An excellent communicator, whether in person, in writing or online, and the ability to adapt communication styles to different contexts.
  • Experience of facilitating groups, particularly with regard to generating discussion and ideas within a group setting.
  • Experience of co-creation with young people
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to make decisions and to work on own initiative.
  • Experience of designing, planning and leading high-quality community sessions.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of arts and a nuanced understanding of culture in all its forms
  • Flexibility of thought and approach and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse     range of people.
  • An understanding of safeguarding
  • A proven commitment to equality and diversity

Desirable requirements

  • Knowledge of organisations and practitioners working in participatory arts

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure and appointment to this post is subject to Rambert being in receipt of a satisfactory DBS Disclosure under section 115 of the Police Act 1997.
