Barnardo’s receives donations of a variety of items which they sell in Superstores. They are looking for a visual merchandiser volunteer to support with creating eye-catching shelves and window displays.

The role would be a great fit for someone who has a real passion for fashion, an eye for detail and understands basic principles of visual merchandising. Your role is to create amazing displays which will make Barnardo’s stand out on the high street and encourage members of the public to come into stores.

It would be great if you could volunteer one shift a week (or even more if you want) but they’re always happy to be flexible to work around your availability.

Cash Desk Volunteer – British Heart Foundation

Could you be the friendly face of your local British Heart Foundation shop? With support around you and full training provided, you will be processing sales through the till as a cashier, talking to customers and thanking every donor – helping us continue to fund life saving research.

This is a customer focussed role where you will meet and interact with a wide range of people.

Just so you know, they are unable to accept volunteers aged under 16 or with unspent criminal convictions. Please note this is an unpaid voluntary position in a friendly charity shop.

Typical tasks include:

· Engaging with customers and serving them in a helpful and friendly way

· Answering questions from customer, donors and supporters

· Communicating with fellow volunteers about what has sold and needs re-stocking

· Honing your retail and cashier skills behind the till and taking payments

· Helping with administration and reception duties around the till area

Online Volunteer Tutor (GCSE) – The Access Project

The Access Project supports pupils from under-resourced backgrounds to access top universities. They are looking for undergraduates, postgraduates, staff, and alumni who would be able to tutor a young person aged 14-16, online, one hour a week in term-time Autumn 2024- Summer 2025 to support them with their academic studies.

•Support a young person in a subject of your choice to achieve the GCSE grades they deserve and to fulfil their potential.
•Build transferable skills, experience and knowledge through ongoing training and development as part of the role.
•Students supported by The Access Project typically achieve a grade higher at GCSE and are twice more likely than their peers to progress to a top-third ranked university.

No prior teaching or tutoring experience necessary, they provide a full comprehensive training and induction to help you build the confidence to be the best volunteer you can be.

Temporary Dog and Puppy Boarder – Dogs for Good (Work from home)

Special puppies are cared for by volunteers in their homes from the age of 8 weeks to approximately 16-18 months. Their dedicated team of volunteers give puppies the best start on their journey to be life-changing dogs. Food and vet bills are covered by the charity and full support and advice is provided by their team of Puppy Co-Ordinators.

Although no experience is necessary, puppy socialisers are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Have a fully-fenced safe and secure garden
  • Be away from the puppy for no more than two hours (in the first few weeks) and four hours (for the remaining time you have the puppy) per day
    You have no more than two pet dogs in the home
  • Drive or have access to someone at all times who can drive you and the puppy
  • With the support of their puppy department you will be willing to train the puppy in the basics, i.e. house training, general obedience and walking on the lead
  • Be able to spend some time every day on activities to meet the health and welfare needs of and socialise the puppy. Guidance will be given and environments that need to be covered at some stage include shops, cafes, train stations, buses, crowded and rural areas
  • Be able to attend monthly puppy classes and group visits and allow home visits from a member of their puppy training team
  • Provide the puppy with regular contact with children, other dogs and cats.

Parts of their application process, and the ongoing support to volunteer puppy socialisers, may be carried out via video call rather than in person.

Group Coordinator (Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley) – Multiple Sclerosis Society

The team are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for their Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley group. As local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible.

You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. You can see a video about one of their Group Coordinators here.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills.

Time Commitment

They estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. They need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply their risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley area to carry out this role.

Costumed Interpreter Volunteer – Port Sunlight Village Trust, closes 20 Aug ’24

As a costumed interpretation volunteer, your role will help them engage visitors with the history of Port Sunlight and enrich the Museum experience.

With provided costumes, you will engage with the public independently, sharing the stories of Port Sunlight and answering questions. Full training will be provided.

Various locations across Port Sunlight Village, mainly in their Museum, Edwardian Cottage and Green Spaces.

Shifts available Wednesday-Sunday mornings and afternoons.

Total Stranger Exhibition Steward Volunteer – Port Sunlight Village Trust, closes 20 Aug ’24

This volunteer role has been designed to support PSVT’s visitor services team to ensure that all visitors to the ‘Total Stranger’ exhibition in Bridge Cottage have an enjoyable experience.

The exhibition is a collection of photographs by Francesco Mellina capturing Liverpool’s music and club scene of 1970s and 80s. You’ll be providing a warm and friendly welcome to their visitors, answering general questions about the exhibition, assisting with the management of visitor flow and visitor numbers, and undertaking audience research on behalf of PSVT, e.g. visitor surveys.

Location: Bridge Cottage, Port Sunlight, Wirral.
Min. 8 hours per month

Volunteer Group Coordinator for Tea Parties – Reengage (Work from home)

Tea party group coordinators are a vital part of the Re-engage team.

Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for their older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated.

As a tea party group coordinator, you will ensure older guests know when and where the next tea party will be held and who will be collecting them each month. This is an administrative role that requires planning and scheduling, you must be comfortable organising monthly events with volunteer hosts, socialising, communicating with people and resolving issues that might arise.

You will need a DBS (England and Wales) or PVG (Scotland) for this role. Sometimes, tea party group coordinators are also drivers or hosts for their group, but this is not a requirement of being a coordinator.
