Dele Sosimi’s Afrobeat Experience

Future Yard are excited to welcome, Nigerian-British Afrobeat Ambassador, Musician and Educator – Dele Sosimi, as part of his curated show – ‘The Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Experience’

Dele Sosimi has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat scene since relocating to the UK in December 1995. Having started his musical career with Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 band in his teens, he then teamed up with childhood friend Fela’s son Femi Kuti (back in the late eighties) to kick start the Positive Force – touring, recording and performing worldwide. Over forty years later, he remains a tireless ambassador for the unique musical movement all over the world.

His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.

Hackney-born and UK-based Dele has performed all over the planet, from the Montreux Jazz Festival to Mawazine Festival in Rabat Morrocco; Ollin Khan in Mexico, South Korea and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Dele was also Afrobeat music consultant for the National Theatre’s production of Fela!, often performing with fellow-pioneer Tony Allen.

The Telescopes

The Telescopes music has constantly pushed at it’s own boundaries, it overlaps many genres following its own course, inspiration led.

Time has shown The Telescopes music not only withstands repeated listening but also reveals something new with each listen, a thread consistent throughout a highly influential body of work spanning over 30 years. The Telescopes have been cited as an influence on many artists across genres, around the world.

GIMMY

Australian born GIMMY (pronounced “gimmie”) hits the Future Yard live room as part of her debut UK/EU tour. Renowned for her authentic spin on modern indie-rock with her effortless blend of garage rock, new wave, punk rock and folk.

Eccentric and emotional, GIMMY is a singer-songwriter that wears her heart on her sleeve. She is unafraid and unapologetic in her lyrics and sound — yelling down the microphone in your face one moment, making your skin tingle with her stunning vibrato the next. GIMMY’s live shows are energising, raw, beautiful and sweaty. Much like her recorded songs, the live experience implores us to “feel” everything and to be connected as humans.

GIMMY’s 2024 debut album Things Look Different Now is the epitome of what a debut record is all about; a collection of songs that showcase just how far GIMMY has come and how much things have changed. Through the album’s 12 tracks, GIMMY explores her own ideas and experiences of “change”, through themes dealing with relationships, ageing, life phases, success, grief and memories. The album is soaked in 80s and 90s nostalgia, with the band bringing together an eclectic collection of songs that weave garage and surf rock, post-punk, folk and indie rock together, packaged together by GIMMY’s powerful, dynamic voice and uniquely Australian charm.

The Congos

The Congos make their debut on Argyle Street this May. The Congos are one of the few of Jamaica’s iconic bands to retain their original lineup since the 1970s. Their gigs embody the true Rastafarian spirit to their shows, bringing powerful unity and a sense of cohesion.

The band stay true to their roots and principles, and to their roots reggae album that made them legends.

The Heart of the Congos (1977) is known for its smooth rhythms, bold basslines and crystalline harmonies. Their music moves and amazes audiences, evoking a strong spiritual presence.

False Reality

False Reality takes on Argyle Street as part of their UK tour. The London band fuse UK beatdown violence with NYC hardcore, thrash, metal, grunge and shoegaze. On November 14th 2025, the London based four piece will release their devastating debut album, Faded Intentions, on Hassle Records.

Thematically, Faded Intentions explores betrayal, revelation, empowerment and revenge with constantly biting venom. There’s a golden thread running through the band name, album title — “It’s about watching someone close to you turn into a different person,” says vocalist Rachel Rigby” With the album, False Reality insist on not just lifting the veil on the truth, but tearing it to shreds with every note.

All told, False Reality deftly walks a fine line: their passion obviously revolves around hardcore, but they refuse to be purists about it. “Our music is a nod and a love poem to every band, genre and local hardcore scene that’s brought us to this point,” says Rigby, and Dale agrees. “We want to subvert expectations of what a hardcore band should be doing,” he says. With Faded Intentions, “we wanted to come out with something unexpected — and we’re proud of it.” With any justice, those subverted expectations will see False Reality transform from emerging heroes of the scene that raised them to a dominating force on the global circuit, ready to demolish anything and everything in their wake.

We’re excited to host False Reality on an extended bill with support from: Overpower and Demeanour

FFO: Madball, Terror, Trapped Under Ice, Metallica, Deftones and Sepultura.

Tickets on Sale Friday 6th February @ 10am
