In the gospel reading of the day, John the Baptist welcomes Jesus as the ‘Lamb of God’ and the term is echoed in this cantata, especially in the conclusion, which is a direct appeal for mercy to the Lamb of God.

Scored for an instrumental ensemble of oboes, bassoon, strings and organ, the music includes a vocal duet and two fine choruses.

Tonight’s tribute includes many of his most famous songs, including ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’, ‘What The World Needs Now’, ‘Do You Know The Way to San Jose’, ‘Walk on By’, ‘Close to You’… he wrote the kind of tunes that you know without even realising it.
They’re the soundtrack to an era – the easiest of easy listening, with an irresistible swing. Tonight, in the stunning surroundings of the Hall, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and an all-star cast of vocalists give them the deluxe treatment.

Synthpop pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) return to the stage in 2024.
The Wirral band take to the road and head to the M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool, on 3 March. The tour is to promote their excellent new album, Bauhaus Staircase.
The legendary Echo and the Bunnymen return to their hometown with two shows at the Liverpool Empire.
The band are touring a ‘best of’ set – Songs to Learn and Sing 2024. The show is sure to include many classic singles, such as Never Stop, Lips Like Sugar and of course, the magnificent The Killing Moon.
Ten talented local songwriting finalists will perform their song entry with an image of the art that inspired it projected on screen for all to see.
