Writing for TV course – Writing ...

Are you economically inactive and interested in joining a creative community where you can further your skills as a writer, develop your confidence, and have your stories heard?

Then a FREE creative writing course could be perfect for you. Most courses will be in person in the Liverpool area, and a small number will be scheduled online for those with access issues.

The Writing On The Wall courses are for all levels of writing ability, so no experience is necessary. They offer a chance to work with professional writers, and everyone who attends will be able to submit their work for publication in a printed anthology available to buy online and in bookshops across the city.

After course completion, they continue to offer regular opportunities to our participants, including practicing and developing writing skills, engaging with our community and connecting you with educational, volunteering or career opportunities. This will happen through the Writer’s Bloc, which are regular community meet ups with professional writers and representatives from educational and career organisations, aimed at further development your skills and prospects.

Writing for TV course

Are you addicted to soaps? Do you love an exciting new drama series?  Want to learn how these shows are created from the people who write them?  Then this course is right up your street.  It will be led by their Write to Work project coordinator, Lyn Papadopoulos – an industry professional with years of soap writing experience, who will share her knowledge and prepare you for the real world of screen writing.  There will also be a chance to gain expert insights from other professional writers, Tony Schumacher (The Responder) and Sally Abbott (The Coroner, Vera, Call the Midwife)

Head along and find out what makes Chris Carson tick.  How Vera stays fresh and exciting for several series and what really happens in a day in the life of a screenwriter.

Spaces on this course will be limited – they will be in touch to confirm your place.

This course will be suitable for anyone who has a passion for script writing on the big or small screen.

Saturday 9th November,10am-4pm

Suitable for both newcomers / beginners or those with experience wanting to expand on their skills and knowledge.

Programme:

Creative pattern design workshop inspired by the amazing interior treasures of the Victoria Gallery and Museum. The beautiful interior of Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery and Museum is a rich Aladdin’s cave of decorative treasures and bold architectural features.

In this 1 day workshop we will use the amazing backdrop of the gallery as the starting point for creating original patterns that capture the imagination! This workshop is Ideal for anyone who loves print and pattern and who would love to learn how to make their own designs. Creating patterns in an analogue way helps us to understand how repeatable patterns work and you only need a good imagination to create something unique!

They will provide paper and a range of materials for people to try out but it would be great if everyone can bring their preferred mediums, and a sketch book.

They can offer to have the patterns printed onto fabric for an additional cost, which would take 2-3 weeks and can be posted out to anyone who is interested.

They will introduce themselves to the group and share examples of my own pattern designs developed for brands in the fashion industry. I will show inspirational images from traditional Victorian tiles and decorative designs to Della Robbia ceramics and William Morris prints- all of which fit the aesthetic of the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

Then they will take a walk and explore the rich interiors of the gallery and museum, making sketches along the way and taking photos to inspire our own original designs.

They will use your photos, sketches and inspiration images to develop original artworks. They will try out various mediums / motifs from our inspiration before deciding on a design to develop further.

—Lunch Break—

After lunch, they will develop artworks into a seamless repeat tile by cutting the design horizontally, flipping the design and filling in the gaps. Repeating this on the vertical until we have a design which wraps around. At the end of the session we will end up with a handmade repeat pattern. This design could be then developed into a pattern to be printed on fabrics, wallpaper etc.

To end, they will share completed designs with the group, in a mini exhibition.

This workshop is designed to give confidence in designing patterns from scratch, to use your imagination and the beautiful surroundings of the Victoria Gallery and Museum to create an original design of your own.
