Mothering Sunday

A warm welcome to Sudley House for all visitors as they celebrate Mothering Sunday at the start of spring in one of Liverpool’s most cherished heritage attractions.

Visitors will be able to create their own wildflower mini meadow to take home, turn their hand at mono-printing using pressed flowers and inspiration from our collections and be treated choral performances through the day.

If you haven’t visited this jewel in Liverpool’s crown you can expect a very warm reception in the peaceful and relaxed environment that makes Sudley such a beloved retreat for their regulars.

Whether you are a mum, have a mum, know a mum or are remembering a special mum, everyone is very welcome to join them in this annual celebration.

Create a spectacle with them as they head out from World Museum at 3pm, then waggle their way along William Brown Street, along side Bob the Butterfly, Gerry the Gerbera and with dance moves from Movema, bringing their story of the bee out into nature.

All families are welcome but if you want to get more involved with our parade then you could book onto one of their workshops beforehand to really ‘bee’ parade-prepared!

You can also watch a brilliant performance form the award-winning world dance group Movema at 2pm outside the museum.

They’ll only be waggling over a short distance but please wear sensible shoes and weather appropriate clothing.

Red Poppies-Battle of Monte Casino

Join Museum of Liverpool for a Special Screening of Red Poppies: Battle of Monte Cassino

Celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino with a powerful Polish film (with English subtitles) that tells the story of one of WWII’s most critical and unifying battles. This screening brings to life the incredible bravery of Polish, British, and Allied forces who fought side by side for victory, shaping the course of history.

The film follows Jędrek, an ex-gulag orphan joining Allied 2nd Corps. His meeting with Pola, a nurse, transforms him as they experience the Battle of Monte Cassino, crucial for the Italian Campaign and Jędrek’s destiny.

Breaking the Code

“It’s not breaking a code that matters, it’s where you go from there”
Mastermind code breaker. Maverick. Arguably one of the most important and inquisitive minds of the twentieth century. Alan Turing is famed for cracking the Enigma code at Bletchley Park, effectively securing victory for the Allied forces in WWII.

From triumph to tragedy, get to know a human being who loved, lost and never stopped asking questions in a quest for truth and understanding in this new production of Hugh Whitemore’s Breaking the Code, directed by Jesse Jones.

For the first time, taking into consideration his recent Royal pardon and the development of Turing’s law, the original play will feature new material that speaks to Turing’s lasting legacy on modern Britain.

A Royal & Derngate, Northampton, Landmark Theatres and Oxford Playhouse production in association with Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse

Matthew Bourne’s The Midnight Be...

Matthew Bourne’s award-winning The Midnight Bell returns to Liverpool Playhouse in 2025.

In 1930s London, ordinary people emerge from cheap boarding houses nightly to pour out their passions, hopes and dreams in the pubs and fog-bound streets of Soho and Fitzrovia. Step inside The Midnight Bell, a tavern where one particular lonely-hearts club gather to play out their lovelorn affairs of the heart; bitter comedies of longing, frustration, betrayal and redemption.

Inspired by the great English novelist Patrick Hamilton (Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky, Hangover Square) who created some of the most authentic fiction of his era; stories borne out of years of social interactions with the working man and woman at his favourite location – the London Pub.

Hailed by The Observer as ‘the undisputed king of dance theatre’, master storyteller Bourne has produced some of the most successful dance theatre productions of the last 30 years including Swan Lake, Cinderella, The Red Shoes and Edward Scissorhands.

Romeo & Juliet

Can their love defy the stars?

Shakespeare’s heart-wrenching classic has mesmerised audiences for generations, and in this potent, powerful new Everyman production, director Ellie Hurt strips it back to its brilliant basics.

United by passion but forced apart by their families, Romeo and Juliet are young lovers who must transform their present to forge a beautiful tomorrow. But with their feuding households locked in a deep-rooted cycle of violence and hate, is it possible to win the loved-up future they crave?

Since completing their YEP Directors programme, Ellie Hurt has created acclaimed shows for venues across the UK including Shakespeare North Playhouse and the National Theatre. Now she’s back at the theatre she calls home to deliver a thrilling, visceral experience – an unmissable Romeo & Juliet that asks whether love can resist the crushing forces of family and history.

“Directing Romeo and Juliet at the Everyman feels like a full-circle moment. I started my journey here with the YEP Directors course, working with so many amazing people and learning so much about the kinds of stories I wanted to tell. It’s incredibly special to be back here and I’m excited to bring a fresh approach to one of my favourite Shakespeare plays.”- Ellie Hurt

Sweet: The Taveners Story

Mojos, Traffic Light lollipops, the Candy Queen contest and annual picnics were all part of everyday life at the Liverpool confectionary company Taveners.

Discover the history of this beloved local company in their display. Founded in 1885 Taveners originally produced pickles and sauces but quickly became famous for its boiled sweets sold in glass jars.

By 1931 they had created the original chocolate Eclair and other classics like Bovril Caramels and Fruit Drops. Even Mickey Mouse and Liverpool Football Club legends Emlyn Hughes and John Toshack visited the factory to promote the brand!

The annual staff picnic, with seaside trips and the Candy Queen contest, was a highlight for employees. This display at the Museum of Liverpool showcases Taveners’ remarkable legacy.
