Fundraiser role – The World Reimagined/LCR Combined Authority, closes 14 Feb

The Liverpool City Region (“LCR”) Combined Authority (“CA”) wishes to commission a Fundraiser to support fundraising and secure sponsorship funding in support of The World Reimagined (TWR) project and related activity.

The project is part of a national initiative involving 8 UK cities and city regions and will deliver TWR in August-October 2022. While the project will follow and be guided and complementary to the national TWR programme, it will assume a distinct, fresh, Liverpool City Region identity.

To this end, the CA is commissioning a Project Fundraiser to plan, lead and oversee a fundraising and sponsorship programme. The Project Fundraiser will work alongside a small Project Delivery Team and a Project Steering Group in order to deliver the project.

The World Reimagined

The TWR initiative provides an opportunity to face the shared history about the Transatlantic Slave Trade with honesty and empathy and which recognises and celebrates the social, economic and cultural contribution of Britain’s black communities. Operating across 8 UK cities, TWR will see trails of globe sculptures installed across cities and city regions that will bring to life the impact of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

As part of this national initiative, Liverpool City Region will see the installation of at least 28 globe sculptures alongside some digital installations that will form a heritage trail that will speak to 9 themes dealing with the impact of Transatlantic Slavery and its enduring legacy and impact on contemporary racial inequality.

Liverpool’s role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade is well documented, but what is less well understood, is the impact of the trade on the wider City Region. Rather than just a few acres around the City’s docks, the Transatlantic Slave Trade had a huge impact on the wider City Region in shaping its industrial development. The World Reimagined will provide greater understanding of the social, economic and cultural legacy of the slave trade and its impact today.

Through an education and art programme, the project will be rooted in local schools and communities in order to facilitate dialogues around racial equality and justice and linked deeply to where people live. Local communities will develop an understanding of how the slave trade impacted their area as well as the rest of the City Region and will enable the co-option of new voices and communities to social activism in support of race equality.

TWR will also facilitate a unique opportunity to celebrate and showcase not only the region’s Black communities, but also that of our Chinese, Asian and other diverse ethnic communities. The region is home to some of the oldest established minority ethnic communities in Europe and the project will uncover their historical and more contemporary contributions and struggles, that will enable new stories to be uncovered and understood.

This unique combination of art, education, community and research programmes will enable greater understanding and facilitate challenges to racial inequality, whilst capitalising on the region’s tradition of radicalism in order to provide new methods of driving up the visitor economy.

Project Objectives

  • To enable the World Reimagined to be delivered within the Liverpool City Region as part of a national project that includes other UK cities and to integrate project planning with national developments between February 2022 and November 2022.
  • To deliver an art installation programme that develops greater understanding of the impact and legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
  • To deliver a schools education and community programme that enhances knowledge and understanding of the Transatlantic Slave Trade upon the Liverpool City Region.
  • To constitute and establish a Steering Group that will advise and support the delivery of the project.
  • To successfully commission key aspects of project delivery e.g. project lead, cycle tour, research programme etc.
  • To enable undertaking of the commissioning process by end of February 2022 that will ensure that the project will be managed and delivered.
  • To identify and formalise the range of partnerships that will be critical to delivery of the project.
  • To promote issues of equality and social justice within an artistic and cultural programme, to encourage visitors to the Liverpool City Region.
  • To develop a cycle trail along the heritage routes that promotes active travel and further health benefits for trail visitors.

Commercial model:

The CA is willing to contribute £12,000 to enable a Project Fundraiser Leader to lead and oversee the delivery of fundraising and sponsorship programme. The Project Fundraise will be expected to deliver work on the Project from February 2022 to August 2022.

Project Fundraiser Objectives

The Project Fundraiser shall lead, plan, deliver, wrap up and report on the project fundraising and sponsorship programme. In so doing, the Project Fundraiser shall:

Secure funding for 7 globe partners at £10k each

Secure sponsors for trail maps

Secure premium trail map sponsors at £20K

Support schools and community organisations to raise funds to participate in programme

Identify other fundraising activity and opportunities as appropriate

By the end of the Project the Fundraiser will have;

  • Worked alongside the project delivery team and national TWR fundraising team to develop a programme of sponsorship and fundraising.
  • Assisted in developing a planned programme of events and activities in order to secure a minimum of £70k in funding from businesses and corporate sponsors and assisted in identifying premium sponsors.
  • Developed fundraising plans with schools and community organisations to assist them in raising funds to enable them to participate in the commissioning of artwork and the overall programme.
  • Obtained sponsorship for interactive and physical maps and other elements of the project

Right to Make Changes

The Project Fundraiser must accept the CA’s right, acting reasonably and following discussion with the Project Manager and Steering Group where appropriate, to make changes to the project objectives and Project Fundraiser objectives.

Such changes are likely to occur from the potential to raise public or other funding or to accommodate new and emerging priorities that will occur as a result of engagement with existing or emerging partners and stakeholders. Such changes should be agreed without financial disadvantage to the Project Fundraiser.

Project Fundraiser Remuneration

The CA will remunerate the Project Fundraiser in the following way;

A fixed fee expressed as a single sum of £12,000. This includes any sums for income tax, national insurance, pension contributions and other similar monies.

Appointment

On appointment, the CA and Cultural Producer and shall together confirm the TWR fundraising and sponsorship programme, format and delivery approach and agree KPIs in relation to development and delivery.

Race Equality Statement

LCRCA strives to explore, cultivate and celebrate racial diversity and TWR provides a unique opportunity to promote these values across the whole of LCR.

They appreciate that the subject matter and issues related to it can be highly sensitive and may require careful management that respects and understands these often-competing sensitivities. We recognise that the perspectives of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities are critical to the success of this initiative and hope to attract suitably qualified candidates from these communities.
