Physic Garden Curator, freelance – Idle Women, closes 27 Nov

Idle Women create artworks which are spaces: a boat, a garden, a rave, a website. Our works are sculptural, site-specific and contextual.

The physic garden is a co-created artists’ garden, a handmade living sculpture, a museum and a place to study. It highlights a critical need for health education and empowerment in our communities. It sits contextually in the violent shadow of Pendle Hill. Its materiality references The Enclosure Acts – the restructuring of a society where men were granted the right to own land, animals and women in that order of importance – the Industrial North, mills, mines, and Empire.

2024 brings the public opening of the physic garden and her inaugural program. As we prepare to open the gates we are inspired and excited to seek a curator who will bring a fresh perspective, criticality, and a broader vision at this pivotal juncture, someone who will respond to our work with skill and insight to curate the contextual and residency programme that will welcome women throughout the first year.

The physic garden has been co-created with many women and from all walks of life as has its sister https://physicgarden.network/ – physicgarden.network. The curator will fortify these existing relationships and help us meet our ambitions to reach new audiences.

The curator will embrace our commitment to employing women for every aspect of our productions and programmes and will bring new connections and relationships that invest meaningful opportunities that raise the bar for women.

The physic garden is a legacy space in a time of precarity, insecurity and climate change. The curator will create honest and genuine opportunities for audiences and collaborators. They will create something radical that lasts and transforms.

Senior Producer, Public Engagement and Learning – Imperial War Museum, closes 29 Nov

In January 2017 IWM launched a new Public Engagement and Learning programme which is courageous, authoritative, relevant, and empathetic.

This new way of programming embraces other disciplines such as poetry, performance and visual art and uses creative learning techniques to offer different perspectives on our subject matter. Our work includes programming for schools, families, young people and adults.

Public Engagement and Learning’s award-winning approach is to create innovative programmes which often involve creative partners. This programme aims to share the human impact of conflict and includes Yemen: Say Hello to Connect an installation which takes conversations about the world’s worst crisis to UK public spaces; Rebel Sounds Live which included the UK’s first Syrian Death Metal performance; and We Were There, which gives schools and families the chance to meet people with direct experience of conflict from refugees to victims of terror and aid workers. Our current schools programme includes the Ofsted commended Holocaust Learning Programme at IWM London and IWM North.

The role will be based at IWM North or IWM London with the expectation that occasional travel to other IWM sites will be required.

Candidates should have a good understanding of both formal and informal public engagement and learning practices, with demonstrable experience of leading on projects with one or more of the following audiences: schools, families, young people, adults, community groups, digital, and events.
