Singer and bouzouki player Daoirí (pronounced ‘Derry’) Farrell is described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of the most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years. Six months after releasing the album True Born Irishman Daoirí won two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 for Best Newcomer and Best Traditional Track, and performed live at the awards ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Since then he has toured Ireland, the UK, Australia and Germany, and played at festivals in the same plus Canada, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and more. He has also toured with the all-star Transatlantic Sessions to major venues across the UK and joined Lúnasa as guest vocalist for U.S. touring.
His fourth album, The Wedding Above In Glencree, recorded with Trevor Hutchinson of The Waterboys/Lunasa was released in 2023 and gained him a nomination as Folk Singer of the Year in Ireland’s RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards.
Don’t be fooled by POPtical Illusion, the playful title of John Cale’s second album in just over a year. He remains angry, still incensed by the wilful destruction that unchecked capitalists and unrepentant conmen have hoisted upon the wonders of this world and the goodness of its people. The all-absorbing POPtical Illusion reinforces the feeling of MERCY, Cale’s much-lauded 2023 album that was as inquisitive as it was fierce.
Across a career of more than six decades, Cale’s vanguard-shaping enthusiasms have shifted among ecstatic classicism and unbound rock, classic songcraft and electronic reimagination with proud restlessness. Now, he burrows into mazes of synthesizers and samples, organs and pianos with words that constitute a sort of swirling hope, a sage insistence that change is yet possible. POPtical Illusion synthesizes contrasting emotions and enthusiasms into a dozen electronic playgrounds, Cale’s magisterial voice webbing across it all with puns and insights, grievances and quips, life and some version of truth.
John Cale has always been a musician of the times, helping to usher in titanic shifts in sound and culture. Once again, on POPtical Illusion, he looks at the orchestrated turmoil of recent history, furrows his brow in disgust, and then turns on his heels toward a future, even if he — like all of the rest of us, really — doesn’t know just what he’ll find or who exactly he’ll be there.
Guitarist and composer Juan Martín plays and introduces his compositions within the forms of the great tradition of flamenco. His exquisite style is enhanced through minimal amplification to capture his very pure flamenco sound.
He has recorded 20 albums, which followed his performance in the Spanish film, Donde tu estés at 17, and has since made three films with his dance company. His success and skill led to him performing at Picasso’s 90th birthday celebrations, which in turn resulted in his groundbreaking album Picasso Portraits.
Voted into the top 3 flamenco guitarists in the world by Guitar Player USA, Juan Martín has toured the world playing concerts from Shanghai and Melbourne to New York as well as in the Montreux Jazz Festival, which included a performance alongside Miles Davis. Critics have compared his compositional talent to that of great Spanish composers Albéniz, Turina and Tárrega, and his books for learning the guitar are now translated into many languages, with his original book being referred to as ‘The Bible’ of flamenco guitar.

In a tongue-in-cheek show helmed by pianist Adam Wakeman (Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band since 2004), Jazz Sabbath are a jazz trio from the UK that plays (instrumental) jazz interpretations of Black Sabbath songs, exploring the boundaries between jazz and the songs that defined heavy metal, echoing already present jazz riffs and discovering new ones.
Presenting themselves as a jazz trio formed in 1968 and being the original writers of the tracks, later made famous by Black Sabbath, they released their self-titled debut album in 2020. In April 2022 they released Vol.2, which entered the Billboard jazz album chart at #6. Both albums got special Record Store Day Mono editions, which sold out within days.
On the albums, Adam is joined by Ash Soan on drums and Jerry Meehan on bass, plus a list of guest musicians, such as Fraser T. Smith (Sam Smith), Simon McBride (Deep Purple) and Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne). However, all go by their 1960s pseudonyms.

After releasing her highly anticipated debut album ‘Looking Glass (Live)’, rising star in Liverpool’s Soul, Jazz and R&B scene, Lydia Reece will premiere her album at District on 12th December, alongside her live band, strings, backing-singers and horn section.
In celebration of the release, Lydia Reece is partnering with Parrjazz this December to captivate audiences, taking them through her journey with an album play-through. Cultivating a passionate, free-flowing and evocative tone alongside a powerful stage presence, Reece’s reputation as an exceptional live artist continues to flourish.
Curating a repertoire from both her debut album and other surprises from her locker, audiences can expect a set stuffed full of heartfelt soul, head-bopping groove and dramatic melodies.
Reece’s live album is a 10 track montage spanning the worlds of Nu-soul, R&B and jazz, all of which manifest in her luscious blend of harmonies, melisma and jazz cadence. Directly influenced by songwriters and leading front-women in the industry such as Lauryn Hill, RAYE, Hiatus Kaiyote and Yebba, she draws inspiration from the intricacies of human emotion and personal experience, channelling maximalism and theatrical elements into her writing style.
Arranged by co-writer and pianist Jack Drummond-Joy and recorded live at The Lightning Cave Studio, the album replicates the orchestral, popular-classical editions of her work that were played at her debut stand-alone sellout show at The Tung Auditorium in Liverpool back in February 2024. The nuanced, intricate orchestral arrangements, compelling lyricism and authentic live recording take the listener on a dramatic journey of contrasting and heightened emotions.
