Baiana feat. Snowboy and The Haggis Ho...

Baiana is the Brazilian-inspired project of Liverpool-born singer-songwriter Laura Doyle.

Refreshingly joyful and charismatic, the show will feature internationally acclaimed percussionist Snowboy (Lisa Stansfield, Imelda May, Amy Winehouse, Rod Temperton, Airto Morreira), who produced their stunning debut album with the trio from The Haggis Horns (John Legend, Mark Ronson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse).

The Anchoress

Welsh producer and multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies) returns, fresh from appearing with Manic Street Preachers.

Her trademark literate baroque songwriting mixes epic melancholic guitar anthems with “swaggering synth-pop” (Uncut) and “shining alt-pop from the artisan of darkness” (Record Collector), and these new shows will see her preview music from her forthcoming studio album with a full live band.

Gigspanner Big Band

Having toured alongside best-selling author Raynor Winn (The Salt Path) with their prose and music collaboration SALTLINES, the Gigspanner Big Band return to their six-piece format, showcasing material from their new album.

Their high-energy, virtuosic performances appeal equally to traditionalists and to those looking for something more experimental, and they have garnered praise from publications as varied as fRoots, The Telegraph and The Wire.

Ímar

BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners, Irish/Manx/Scottish quintet Ímar are amongst Glasgow’s hottest folk property.

Adam Brown (bodhrán), Adam Rhodes (bouzouki), Mohsen Amini (concertina), Ryan Murphy (uilleann pipes) and Tomás Callister (fiddle) share a strong background in Irish music; a grounding that underpins many of Imar’s distinctive qualities, in both instrumentation and material. Indeed, the group’s very being embodies a personal reconnection with its members’ formative years, dating back long before their recent camaraderie around Glasgow’s celebrated session scene.

Michael Messer & Chaz Jankel

Virtuoso slide guitarist & songwriter Michael Messer (favourite of Johnny Cash) and multi-instrumentalist songwriter Chaz Jankel (Ian Dury & The Blockheads) release their debut album, Mostly We Drive – a finely crafted, lyrically inventive collaboration.

Janácek’s Glagolitic Mass

With its jubilant trumpets, thundering organ and raw, unbuttoned lust for life, there’s nothing quite like the Glagolitic Mass.

It’s an ear-tingling, soul-shaking adventure of a lifetime for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir and fastrising guest conductor Dinis Sousa – and there’s no better way to set the mood than with Beethoven’s leafiest (and loveliest) symphony.
