Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and suitably experienced professional to join their Senior Leadership Team on a temporary basis.

They are looking to appoint a Director of Heritage to cover Parental Leave for up to 12 months. You will work with the CEO, other Directors, and Board of trustees to realise a new 5-year plan for the organisation and a longer-term masterplan for Port Sunlight.

About the post

As Director of Heritage, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Heritage Directorate, which is responsible for the care and protection of Port Sunlight’s heritage and collections and making their stories and legacies accessible and relevant to everyone through research and public programming.

As well as people management and overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the Directorate, you will also lead the following projects over the next 12 months:

  • Review of the 10-year Conservation Management Plan

Brought to the stage in a co-production between Storyhouse and Fallen Angels Dance Company, this gripping Faustian drama explores what we must sacrifice to achieve greatness, and the legacy that we leave behind.

You will direct Faustus – The Dammed Woman driving quality, aspiration, accessibility and innovation in the design, casting, staging and presentation of the production. This will take place within a 4-week rehearsal and 4-day technical rehearsal period. Working alongside Fallen Angels Artistic Director, Paul Bayes Kitcher to embed movement into the production.

You will join their production team, working under the leadership of their Producer to deliver a world-class production on time, on budget to surprise, delight and inspire audiences in Chester and the wider community.

The show will include live music, automation (although this is not operated by the SM), and circus elements so they are looking for a Stage Manager with experience. As well as supporting the rehearsal room, the Stage Manager will be responsible for and will co-ordinate the sourcing of props during the rehearsal process alongside the ASM. The Stage Manager will run the tech and will co-ordinate backstage to ensure the performances run smoothly and safely.

Rehearsal hours are usually between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday, but will occasionally include some evenings and Saturdays. The tech week schedule will include daytimes, evenings, and Saturday. As a result of the growth of the company in the last two years and our recent organisational development activity – which includes securing our first National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to run Sounds in the City, a music heritage project – we have identified the need for a Learning and Engagement Manager to join the Sound City team.

We’re looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who is passionate about music and heritage, who is looking to work as part of a small, committed team who share that passion. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative and a natural problem-solver with an enthusiastic and engaging personality and experience of designing and delivering learning and engagement programmes with and for young people.

ABOUT SOUNDS IN THE CITY

Your main project at Sound City will be Sound in the City. The aim of the project is to engage young people aged 16-24 in the UK and beyond with the unique musical and cultural heritage of Liverpool and Merseyside through a training course both live and broadcast via our innovative digital streaming platform Guesthouse and a series of short documentaries.

Young people are under-represented in heritage and often don’t see it as being ‘for them’. Sounds in the City will be young person led, with our heritage experts and film crew supporting them to uncover and tell the stories that are relevant to their lives and interests.

We’ve already done some consultation with young people and themes of the project may include: the Black music scene of Merseyside; ‘Spaces of Music’, exploring venues, rehearsal spaces and studios; and dance music culture, from the 80s to the present day.

Project partners include the Institute of Popular Music at Liverpool University and Liverpool UNESCO City of Music. Sounds in the City and this role are generously supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

JOB DESCRIPTION

– Objectives and Responsibilities

Develop, project manage and monitor the National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project “Sounds in the City engaging 16-24 year olds with Merseyside’s lesser-known musical heritage through a youth-led digital programme”
Devise and implement an appropriately robust monitoring and evaluation framework for the project, including briefing and liaison with any external researchers and consultants as appointed by Sound City (Liverpool) Ltd

Work with the Sound City team to develop the organisation’s learning, participation and engagement programme with a particular focus on increasing activity and expertise in music/cultural heritage.

– Key Tasks and Duties

– recruitment and on-boarding of Sounds in the City participants
– run workshops and focus groups with young people as part of the development of the project content and approach
– management and supervision of participants, volunteers, freelancers and specialist speakers/contributors
– partner liaison, eg schools/colleges, Institute of Popular Music at Liverpool University
– develop appropriate participation strategies and policies for the Sounds in the City project

THE DETAILS

The role is office-based but Sound City operates a flexible approach to working, with home-working encouraged where possible and productive. We offer a supportive and nurturing working environment, with coaching and training where required. This is a wide-ranging part-time role: support will be given by the Managing Director (line manager) and other relevant members of the Sound City team, e.g. administrator, project managers, finance and marketing/communications.
